STEM 2015-2016

Hello! We are so excited to continue the STEM program next year. All current STEM students, will be able to continue in STEM with no further lottery or application. Their enrollment form already indicates they are a STEM student. Please let us know if you have questions!

STEM Parent Meeting

As students start the enrollment process for 7th grade, the STEM Academy would like to hear from you. Please mark your calendars for Feb. 18th 2015 at 5:00 p.m. We will be having a STEM Booster Club/Parent Informational meeting at school. Tony Zahn, Director of Science and Instructional Technology, will be available to answer questions about the STEM program and get feedback from parents. We hope you can attend.

Field Trip to UTA College of Engineering

Engineering Week is quickly approaching! Students will be taking a field trip to visit the College of Engineering on Monday, Feb. 23rd. This trip is completely FREE for all students. The Booster club in cooperation with the school is providing the buses and the UTA provides lunch (and goodies!) for students. We can't wait. Students will be bringing home a permission form this week. Please complete both sides and send it back to school.

February is full of important dates! From the District Programs Expo to Engineering Week there is lots going on. Here is a summary of all events:

Feb. 12th- District Programs Expo at CTMS- come learn about all of the program options the district offers. The STEM Academy will have several tables to promote our program. Dual language, Aspire Academy and iUniversity Prep will all be represented.

Feb. 18th- STEM Parent Meeting at 5:00 (see above for information)

Feb. 23rd-28th Engineering Week

Monday- Field trip to UTA

Tuesday- Guest Speaker and Design Challenge

Wednesday- UTD Rube Goldberg Challenge

Thursday- Design challenge

Friday- Guest speaker/Design Challenge and Sphero Robot Experience

Feb. 28th- SciGirls Saturday- 9:00-11:30 ScribbleBots (more information coming soon)

Engineering Essay Contest

ALL students have the opportunity to participate in the Engineering Essay Contest sponsored by Engineer Girl. Details are provided at the link below. If a student wishes to participate, we can provide assistance/proof reading at school. ALL SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE MARCH, 1st!!
