MEA Alum in the News

Alumni Adira Rosen was an MEA 10th grader when she founded the MEA Theatre Company, and her legacy has lived on through the wonderful shows that students have performed here every year since 2015.

Now Adira is in the news, and here's part of the story...

For the seniors involved in Carnegie Mellon University’s esteemed drama program, this was a year they had been looking forward to — years of study culminating in an entire season of 22 stage shows over the course of the school year....For now, the entire first semester of shows has been postponed to the second semester....However, at least one enterprising group of students decided that when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.... At least that’s how Adira Rosen sees it.

SAT Tests

All future SAT tests have been cancelled at San Diego Unified School District sites due to COVID closures. Testing will resume as soon as possible. Refunds will be issued by the College Board.

Yearbook

If you purchased a yearbook last year you may be receiving email messages from TreeRing. And YES! There will be a yearbook this year, but the pictures are going to be crowdsourced. So we’ll be asking for your help in making this yearbook the best possible! More info will follow on picture categories and where to submit images.

Library Updates

Hello from your MEA library and book room!

We hope you have settled more into your unusual 2020 school year. We are now holding material checkouts / exchanges / returns on Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. only (except during turn-in weeks). There is no need to email us in advance. However, when we have special distributions ready for check-out, they will be noted in the Monday Message. Thank you!

Library services are changing often around San Diego, so please check these sites regularly for the latest information.

Contact the MEA library: kiwamoto@sandi.net

End of Semester vs End of Month 5

During most school years the end of the Month 5 attendance month coincides with the end of the first semester. Both of these dates are set at the district level and something that we as a school site cannot change. This year is an anomaly. Semester 1 ends on Jan. 22 while Month 5 ends on Jan. 29. We want to let everyone know now (well in advance) that all work for Semester 1 will be due the 3rd week of Month 5. Any work assigned to be completed during Week 4 of Month 5 will count towards Semester 2. Teachers will make this clear on their assignment sheets as well as in Google Classroom and/or Canvas.

Help needed for MEA Foundation

Last year, after much leg work, we formed the Mt. Everest Academy Foundation. The mission of the Mt. Everest Academy Foundation is to enhance the overall experience of Mt Everest Academy students by organizing volunteer efforts and raising funds to support teaching and learning opportunities. The MEA Foundation wants all students, staff, and parents to participate in the betterment of Mt. Everest Academy.

Unbelievably, despite Covid19, the MEA Foundation raised over $8,600 and 100% of this money will be used to enhance the educational experience of our students.

INCOME

  • Fun-Run $5,114.53
  • Family Dinner Nights $618.98
  • Start-Up Donations $1,200.00
  • Donation to purchase kiln $1,500.00
  • Cash Donations $224.00

TOTAL
$8,657.51

We need your help! Some of the initial founders of the MEA Foundation have students who no longer attend Mt. Everest. We are in current need of additional Board members to keep the Foundation going. Please email Principal Browne if you are interested in learning more about the Foundation or becoming a Board member. We have minimal meetings throughout the year and it is one of those things that you can make as large or small as you want it to be. Everyone has skills to offer!
