From Rev. Mary -

I’m attending the UUA General Assembly this week along with many other Unitarian Universalists.

In the meantime, I thought you might want to see the letter that the Concerned Clergy of Olympia (CCO) sent to the Olympia City Council in support of Black Liver Matter. Rev. Carol and I signed on to the letter.

Also, if you missed the CCO Interfaith Pride Service last Thursday or would like to view it again, you can find a recording on the CCO FaceBook page.

Blessings on your week,

Rev. Mary

Midsummer Online Auction June 20-28

The 2020 OUUC online Auction is well underway but still very much OPEN FOR BUSINESS all this week. To start bidding—or to bid some more—follow this link to the Auction site. Please ask friends and neighbors to check out the Auction too, by sharing this online link.

Already, the Auction has made great strides, as of Monday: more than $7000 has been stockpiled via Raise the Paddle to help OUUC invest in improved electronic communication for future services. You may raise that paddle multiple times if you like. An excellent $15,000 has been bid on the regular auction items. But we hope to take this figure notches higher by the end of bidding at 6:00 pm on Sunday, June 28. (You will be notified of your winning bids after Sunday.) Auction items will be delivered to the lucky bidders by the donors, or by arrangement with a highly mobile Gail Gosney Wrede.

Special thanks to our Merry Shakespeareans, Ryan Baye, and Martha Guilfoyle, for kicking off our auction last Saturday. And kudos to Jeff Goltz and Mike Harbour for stepping in once again as auctioneers. Again, here’s that link to the Auction site.

Questions about bidding or other auction queries? Please send an email to auction@ouuc.org and let us know the help you need. We'll get you set up! Or you may contact Melanie Ransom.

OUUC Realm Tips

Church Events are now available by logging into your Realm account. Just click on the Event tab when accessing your Realm account from your PC or from the Connect – Our Church Community app. Find the Zoom links to Sunday services and more. Would you like to learn more about OUUC Realm? Information is available here or by contacting church staff.

Film Discussion

Have you watched the movie JUST EAT IT on youtube? The movie is available for free (with ads) and you can watch it right at home anytime. It deals with food waste and food security. We liked it. The Environmental Action Team has organized a ZOOM meeting on July 9 at 7:00 pm to discuss the film and explore opportunities for action. Our food choices, agricultural and retailing practices are a major contributor to climate change. It is something you can act on to make a difference.

Quick Notes

There are events you can attend at General Assembly that don't require registration. The list is here. Look for "Registration Not Required" and "Events for Public Viewing."

OUUC staff are attending the virtual General Assembly this week so we may be a little slower than usual in answering email.

The Virtual Bulletin Board is a place for members to share information about events in the larger community, ask for recommendations, and share resources. Email the church office to sign up.

Think Global, Act Local

Many of us are looking for ways to fight racism and support the work of justice. One way those of us who are white can be allies is to financially support local organizations doing anti-racism work. Please consider supporting Media Island International here in Olympia. Executive Director, Shawna Hawk, is a black woman running a non-profit working to support women of color. Several of us at OUUC met with Shawna last Fall and are honored to have this connection. The Mission Statement of Media Island International is this:

MII is a cultural, educational and networking center, whose focus is to support women of color in their leadership while working with other like-minded individuals and groups who do conscious social justice activism. MII also chooses to support education, organizing, and movement building, as well as independent progressive investigative journalism. You can find more information at the MII website. You can donate on the website or by sending a check to:
