TECHstravaganza 2015!

The TUSD Digital Learning Coaches were proud to put on the second annual TECHstravaganza on May 7th at Hicks Canyon Elementary School. Fellows from several schools shared their experiences and lessons from the year with teachers from all over the District. Cori Martin, Christy Platt and Liz Root represented Orchard Hills with their "App Smash Mania!" sessions. Liz Root presented "Seuss Smash"- an engaging lesson from Read Across America Week incorporating the Dr. Seuss Camera app, Chatterpix Kids, Stop Motion Camera and iMovie. Cori Johnston presented "College Hunt Smash"- a NEST project involving online research, Haiku Wikiprojects, Canva, ThingLink and TouchCast. Finally, Christy Platt presented "Genius Hour Smash", creating "Genius Hour" projects based on Google 20% projects, incorporating Chatterpix Kids, Explain Everything, PicCollage, Animoto and Google Story Builder. The sessions were a HUGE success and teachers commented on how much they learned and were inspired by the whole experience!

Looking Back...

As the 2014/15 year comes to a close, Fellows have been reflecting on their experiences and shown tremendous growth over the school year. Just a few snippets of the amazing new things happening in OH classrooms:

-Use of Google Classroom as an assignment and homework management system

-Increased use of Google Apps for Education, including Google Forms for a variety of classroom functions.

-Creative and innovative App-Smashing projects incorporating new apps such as Explain Everything, Book Creator and Masterpiece.

-Use of the new Osmo interactive learning tools!

-Wide use of QR codes on display at Open House! Many were linked to a large array of digital portfolios, utilizing Padlet, ThingLink, Haiku, Google Drive and more!

-Teachers being innovative and creative in their classroom experiences! Many teachers have commented on their feeling of increased self-efficacy and how they feel more willing to 'take a chance' with technology integration.

Orchard Hills would like to extend a huge "Thank You" to the Irvine Company for their investment in a dedicated Digital Learning Coach on site. Devoting time and resources toward the advancement of learning for all students is a huge gift!
