"Love Is Your Greatest Gift"
"Everyone can be great, because everyone can Love."
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-19, NIV)
While having a very deep and profound discussion with a close friend a few days ago, my friend began to share with me their desire to do something great and noteworthy with their life. They began to talk about their dreams and goals of financial success, fame, power and influence. As I was listening, I began to identify with those desires and I felt myself wanting those things as well.
Then when we parted our ways, I began to pray in my car, and wondered if I would ever be great. What if I never acquire the wealth of Solomon, or the fame of great historical figures that we admire until this day? What if I never do anything noteworthy or accomplish anything that other people warrant as having been a great achievement? During this time of prayer and meditation I heard God speak to me, “Everyone can be great.” Then the scripture attached to this devotional quickly arose in my spirit and it was clear to me what the Lord was saying.
You see, everyone can be great. Maybe not great by the definition that we ascribe to it, but in God’s Kingdom, greatness is measured by a different standard. Greatness, in God’s Kingdom, does not require world class talent, nor does it require an I.Q. to rival that of the world’s greatest thinkers. It does not require the wealth of Solomon, nor does it require the fame of history’s most admired individuals. Greatness, in God’s Kingdom, requires only one thing; a willingness to Love.
When we choose to Love God and Love Others we are great in God’s Kingdom. When we choose to be patient, kind, and forgiving towards our neighbor, we are walking in greatness. When compassion moves us to meet the needs of those around us whose very survival may depend on our act of Love, we are cloaked in the greatness of God. When we choose to obey the voice of God, with a willingness of heart and a true desire to please Him, we stand as giants in the sight of God with a shroud of greatness encompassing us. God calls us great when we LOVE, and that is the true standard of definition that will last throughout eternity.
Being great everyday should be our aim. It is a great desire to have, and it is one decision away from each and every one of us. Choose God. Choose greatness. Choose Love.
In closing, God wants each and every one of us to be great. Not by the world’s standards, but by His. In God’s Kingdom, greatness is Loving God and Loving others, the two greatest commandments. We Love God by obeying His Ten Commandments and we Love others by becoming 1 Corinthians 13.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love (1 Cor. 13:13).
