May 2017
Message from Mr. Hatfield
It is hard to believe that this is our last Smore for the 2016-2017 school year. All of the end of year information is below, so I wanted to take a moment to simply say "Thank You." Thank you for sending us your precious children each and every day. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of their learning in which we inspire each other. Thank you for allowing us to help mold your children to be productive citizens of today. We are all truly honored to say we create a place where children love to learn and learn to love others. As we look back on the year, at each child's life, we can see the growth and transformation inside and out. It is an amazing feeling to see all the accomplishment each child has made. Thank you once again and we look forward to seeing you at the awards ceremonies in a couple of weeks.
Sincerely,
Josh Hatfield

Traffic changes continue near College Hills Elem.
Stopping in the intersection of Gilchrist and Williams is now prohibited, as indicated by the installation of new "No parking, standing and stopping" signs. This includes stopping to just briefly unload passengers. Utilizing the parking lot and drop off lane at the front of the school is safer for children and gives them an example of choosing what is best.
A recent update on progress for Munson Ave:
The east half of Munson between Lincoln and Francis is just about completed. We need to finish the northern Rose Circle driveway, some sidewalk, and the tie-in at Lincoln. Starting tomorrow the contractor is plans on beginning their work at the Lincoln intersection and the northern Rose Circle driveway; the southern Rose Circle driveway will be open. Traffic control will remain the same. The contractor also plans on starting their work on the Francis intersection [the week of May 1st], which will require them to close down half the intersection. They will start by closing down the eastern half of the intersection and setting up detours. All the thru traffic on Francis will need to follow the detours and traffic on Munson will continue to follow the current setup. This work, weather permitting, should take about 1-2 weeks. While the contractor is working on these intersections, they will start dressing up and cleaning up areas behind the curb. As always please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Casey Rhodes,

Would you like to be more involved next year?
At College Hills, we aim for many hands make light work. We are committed to helping each other and understand life is busy. If you are interested in a board position or in partnering up with an existing board member, we would love to have you.
PTO BOARD POSITION CHANGES
Each year, we say goodbye to many long time serving PTO Board members as families graduate or move from College Hills. New faces not only serve to make the new school year run more smoothly, but also help to keep information and experience common knowledge from year to year. If you would like to be more involved at College Hills, please consider these options:
1. Assist an existing board member or committee. We are committed to keeping PTO commitments doable. Many board members will have plenty of institutional memory, but not plenty of time next year. New faces are key to helping existing members continue their commitment. We'd be happy to contact with options to find the best fit for your schedule and needs.
2. Help to fill priority vacancies for 2017-2018:
- Beginning of School Year Welcome (1 volunteer needed) An ideal position for a current Kinder parent ready to greet next year's new families through the Pancake Playdate and Boo Hoo Breakfast. Peak work time is the last week of (this) April and mid August.
- Fall Fundraising Committee (1-2 volunteers needed) While the Paw Print Festival is our signature fundraiser, fall fundraising is important to fill budget needs earlier in the year and relieve the pressure of depending on a single fundraiser. The committee will have the PTO's sincere appreciation for the fundraising method that meets their available time and efforts. Peak work time is September & October.
- Yearbook (2 volunteers needed) Collect photos year round, create the layout and content for the yearbook and work with balfour.com to organize orders and distribution in the spring. Peak work time is February & March.
PTO Dads are beyond great!
Our PTO balances work & family.
Littles welcome!
TAMU Game Day Parking this Fall and more at Oakwood
The best way to help at Oakwood is by being a part of the Oakwood PTO! With many existing PTO families rezoned for Pecan Trail Intermediate, incoming parents are especially needed.
We are looking to fill a few more board positions on the Oakwood PTO next year. Our board currently meets either the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday at lunchtime.
- Fall Fest: Silent Auction (1 or 2 Positions): Solicit donations and manage the silent auction during our Fall Festival, including the Teacher auction. Fall Fest is primarily about bringing our Oakwood family together for a fun evening; money raised at the auction is a bonus. The expectation for Fall Fest Silent Auction is very reasonable and only averages about 30 items.
- Game Day Parking Committee (up to 4 open positions for any parent): Parking for TAMU home Football games is currently Oakwood's primary annual fundraiser. We need parents able to work 1-2 of the home games next year, as well as help coordinate a volunteer team for that game. Depending on kick-off time, we work 3-4 hours before game time. Great role for a parent not able to help as much during the weekdays. Dads are encouraged to join the committee as there is occasional heavy lifting.
Thank you for supporting our students and our schools! For more information please contact Kimberly McAdams at kirkham_mcadams@yahoo.com
Know the new kid already?
We'd love for them to feel welcome at our school right away!
Tue. Aug. 22 8:30-10 Pancake Playdate at the Playground for Kinder students (with a parent. Siblings welcome) Please RSVP on our Facebook event page or contact 979-255-4452 to confirm that weather or schedule conflicts have not necessitated a change in plans.
Mon. Aug. 28 Boo Hoo Breakfast. After you've dropped off your new student in his or her classroom, please join us in the library. Thanks to Blue Baker, we'll enjoy refreshments, a brief welcome and be able to answer any questions you have before you head out for the rest of your day.

With remind & Facebook, parents can receive helpful reminders and interesting news where it is most convenient.
We share even more info for parents through Facebook for the school here and for the PTO here. It is encouraged that parents toggle on "Get Notifications" on the top of our pages. Otherwise, many posts will not be included in your news feed without being boosted with an ad buy. We'd rather spend our money on the kids:)
