Message from Mrs. Wilken
Dear Trailblazers,
It's one of the best weeks of the year...PTA sponsored Scholastic Book Fair. I hope your family will have some time to join one of the events during the week. Take a look at the schedule below.
Every month we practice various safety drills. This past week we had a fire drill. Staff and students knew exactly where to go and what to do. I was very proud of our school's response to this important drill. On October 26th, we will be practicing another important emergency drill - our first lockdown drill. For this drill, I will be explaining what we will do in case of an emergency on campus to all students and staff before we practice. I will be sharing the site protocol in our Monday all school video announcements. If you are ever interested in hearing about what is happening on campus each week, you can always check out our weekly school announcements.
We continue to celebrate Filipino Heritage month at school and in our classrooms.
Keep your eyes open from communication from your child/ren's classroom teacher regarding parent - teacher conferences. Conferences will take place November 14-18. Teachers will work with parents/guardians to schedule conference times and format that is best.
Proud to be Your Principal,
Mrs. Wilken

DISTRICT NEWS
NEW! K12 School Funding Forum
Join us Tuesday, October 25, 5:30pm to 7pm in the PUSD District Office (located at 15250 Avenue of Science).
It will also be live streamed and recorded here for those who cannot attend.
Poway Unified is hosting a K12 School Funding Forum for interested staff, families, and community members. This meeting is for anyone who would like to learn more about how school and school district programs, facilities, and staff are funded.
Associate Superintendent of Business, Ron Little, a veteran of school finance, will break down the complexities of school funding in an easy-to-understand presentation.
He will also answer any questions you might have, including:
- What are the different types of District funds, and what they can/cannot be used for?
- What's the difference between schools and homes located in CFDs vs. SFIDs?
- Why are school foundations having to constantly raise money?
- Why can’t PUSD just fix all of our aging schools by budgeting better?
- What is the special tax (Mello Roos) reduction plan I’m hearing about? What does that mean for my property tax bill?
This forum is part of PUSD’s ongoing efforts to provide financial transparency and fiscal accountability to our stakeholders.
We hope you’ll join us!
