Another Year Comes to a Close...
As May turns into June, the end of the school year cannot be far behind, and what a school year this has been! Our students and staff began this school year returning to full time instruction after dealing with COVID-19 disruptions for the previous 18 months and did a fantastic job returning to some degree of normalcy. This return to school reminded all of us how important human contact and socialization is to our development and how critical it is to the educational process. When education is at its best, it is a social endeavor that enriches all those involved. Perhaps the greatest teaching lesson reinforced over these last several years is that we are all in this together. And despite all the hardships this year presented, our students and staff triumphed, and we are so proud of them.
Our high school seniors will be graduating at the Rutgers Jersey Mike's Arena on June 17, 2022. Graduation exercises for Edison High School will take place at 1:00 PM and those for John P. Stevens High School will begin at 4:30 PM. We look forward to celebrating their successes as they transition to the next phase of their lives.
During the summer months, a great deal of activity will be occurring in the Edison Public Schools. Our Lincoln Elementary School ten classroom addition is scheduled to be completed in August and ready to receive students for September 2022. You may view the ongoing progress via this link. We are also renovating the auditorium at Edison High School and look forward to that ribbon cutting in September as well. Each cafeteria at our high schools is having their HVAC systems upgraded to include air conditioning providing some large group relief areas for students and staff during those excessively warm days. Roofing upgrades are scheduled for Edison and John P. Sevens High Schools as well. In addition, numerous district-wide repaving projects are taking place to upgrade many of our school's parking areas. Numerous classroom and lavatory renovations are also beginning as soon as our school year ends on June 17, 2022. This will be an extremely active summer to prepare our schools for the new school year in September.
In addition to these ongoing capital projects, the district has begun the design phase of our capital projects initiative to end overcrowding in our district. Please click here to review the March 30, 2022 detailed presentation of the plan. This is a multi-year endeavor that we are excited to begin. Please stay abreast of the latest developments in this area by regularly visiting the link here for our district capital projects.
Finally, we are excited to begin our full day kindergarten program this September and encourage parents to register their child as soon as possible and not wait until the last minute. The link to register students for our schools can be found here.
We wish everyone a happy and healthy summer. And, as always, continue to Shine Bright Edison!
