Bethany Elementary School
Thanks to everyone who stopped by our Bethany maker-space table at the Catch the Reading Bug event! We loved meeting families from the community and creating glow bugs to light up reading!
Big day at Bethany Elementary March 21! We had the privilege of visiting every classroom to reveal our Bulldog’s name! Bethany students and staff recently voted and named our Bulldog! Meet Barksley the Bulldog!
Congratulations to Bethany Elementary’s Battle of the Books team for winning the RCS District finals on March 21! We are very proud of our students and coaches! On to the State regional competition!
The heart, love, and smiles our staff put into every single day at Bethany Elementary is truly amazing! To see all the characters in the car line and the joy from the kids just made our day! Thankful to be a Bulldog family!
Central Elementary School
Thank you Holmes Middle School for Central Elementary School’s tour earlier this month! The Central Panther Cubs are excited about moving up!

Dillard Academy
Dillard Academy had an incredible time at the RCS Catch the Reading Bug 2023! Thank you Mrs. Belton for heading up this event! We love Elmer! Dillard Academy students and staff had an incredible time as well!

Dillard Academy's All County Chorus students did an amazing job last Friday! Thank you Mrs. Combs for getting our students prepared for this amazing event!

Douglass Elementary School

Huntsville Elementary School
Special Shout Out to Huntsville’s top ten singers who did a fabulous job representing themselves, their families, and Huntsville Elementary at the Elementary All-County Chorus Festival on Friday, March 10th!
Students at Huntsville Elementary recently participated in the Kids Heart Challenge! Our community pulled together and raised over $2,500 in donations for the American Heart Association! Coach Shelton organized a day to celebrate their fundraising efforts complete with fun cardio activities including tumbling, jump roping, hula hooping, dunking, and parachute fun!
Read Across America Week is always a great time for guest readers from our community to share a favorite story with our students. This year we were fortunate to have several folks from central office, school board members, administrators from our school and our middle school, the children’s librarian from the local library, retired teachers, and folks from local businesses. We are so grateful to everyone who gave their time to enrich our day!
Read Across America Week always brings a fun spirit week complete with PJs, twins, Dr. Seuss characters and interesting snacks! Take a peek at some of the fun students and staff had celebrating Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Week!
Huntsville’s kindergartners and first graders celebrated Read Across America Week with a presentation of the musical, “Hats!”
March is Music In Our Schools Month! Huntsville’s third and fourth graders had the opportunity to go to a concert given by the Greensboro Symphony. Our fourth graders had a visit from local bluegrass musician, Lynn Wolfe. Students in Mrs. Southard’s fifth grade have been participating in a fun listening activity and are deciding on the best fight song in the ACC. Students in all grades have also enjoyed creating musical artwork on grocery bags for the customers at a local store, Knight’s Grocery. The Cultural Arts are alive at Huntsville and we appreciate the support from our community.
Huntsville’s students prepared for the merry pranksters also known as leprechauns on St. Patrick’s Day by creating traps! While we weren’t successful in trapping the leprechauns this year, we all enjoyed the shenanigans!
Fourth graders at Huntsville worked in their math groups to graph and make array models with lucky charms for Saint Patrick's Day!
The incubators and caterpillars have arrived in second grade classrooms at Huntsville! Students are excitedly awaiting changes in the lifecycle!
Ms. Fox’s fifth grade reading groups researched an influential woman for Women's History Month! After preparing a presentation, they shared their research with their classmates!
Leaksville-Spray Elementary School
We are so proud of our students who participated in All County Chorus!

On Friday, March 17th our kindergarten students visited the Children's Museum in Greensboro for a day full of learning! Our students explored and had so much fun! Our first graders also took a trip to Greensboro Science Center for a day full of fun!
Mrs. Wall and Brooklyn started to coordinate their hairstyles during the week!
Students in Media read "The Mosquito" by Elise Gravel. Third graders created a new bug and wrote special characteristics about their bug!
On March 16th and 17th, we had North Carolina Native Americans visit our students! They performed various dances that our students also participated in!
Lisa Barnett plays a vital role in providing support for our students, administrators, teachers, educators, parents, and the community. Thank you Mrs. Barnett for all you do for Leaksville Spray!
On March 21, LSE held its Student Showcase Night with a fourth grade wax museum and book fair!
On March 21st, our third graders traveled to Chapel Hill to the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center. We learned about the Earth, moon, and sun, and even saw really cool science experiments!
Lincoln Elementary School
Lincoln Elementary third through fifth graders enjoyed learning about the Meherrin Tribe’s culture, traditions, and history, presented by Patrick Suarez!
Career Day at Lincoln Elementary School!
First Graders are having some hands-on yummy fun reviewing the layers of soil!
Third Grade has been doing a Patricia Polacco author study. After reading Rechenka’s Eggs, students had the opportunity to make their own Pysanky Egg to make learning about the Ukrainian Easter tradition come to life.
Lincoln’s third, fourth, and fifth graders learned valuable information from Native American Patrick in regards to customs, cultures, and history of his tribe!
Monroeton Elementary School

South End is so proud of our All-County Chorus students! They put on a fantastic performance and sounded beautiful! Thank you Mr. Jones for all your hard work as well!
Fourth graders completed lighthouse research projects and presented to their classmates!
Thank you to Pastor Tharrington for taking time each week to mentor young men from our school! These life lessons are invaluable, just like you!
Stoneville Elementary School
Catch the Reading Bug was "Out of this World!!" The turnout was awesome!
Stoneville Elementary students did a fantastic job representing our school at the All County Chorus Event and Art Show!
Mr. Dowdle incorporated a PE activity to support PI Day. Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 around the world. Pi is the symbol used in math to represent the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Way to incorporate Math into PE, Mr. D!
Each month Ms. Cross awards an "All-Star Artist”! The characteristics of an All-Star Artist includes: hard working/focused student, creative, enjoys being challenged artistically, and a good citizen by working well with others.
Stoneville’s February All-Star Artist is Luke Pardue, a fourth grade student in Mrs. Tucker's Class! Luke is a very enthusiastic and talented artist. He is both extremely focused and excited about each new project that is assigned. Luke also stands out for being a good neighbor helping both his peers and teachers! Congratulations Luke!
We would like to give our Battle of the Books team a huge shout out!! They placed second in the District Competition, the best finish ever for Stoneville Elementary! Thank you to Molithia Spencer and Amber Haskin for coaching these students throughout the year! They did an awesome job today and we could not be more proud of them!
The PTO-sponsored Bingo Night was a huge success! Through the event, price matching, and donations, $10,000 was raised to go towards new playground equipment for our students! We have the best PTO and community support! Thank you all!
Wentworth Elementary School
Wentworth Elementary had so much fun at the Reading Bug Festival!
Williamsburg Elementary School
On March 21, the Williamsburg Elementary Student Council sponsored a blood drive at the school! There were 19 units of blood collected at the drive. #wildcatssavinglives
Williamsburg Student Council organized a Food Drive to help supply food for our Backpack Program!! Thanks to this awesome event we are now fully stocked until the end of the year!! We are so proud of our Wildcat students and families for helping with this community service project!
Williamsburg Wildcats loved participating in the Reading Bug!! This is such a wonderful event that supports reading in our county!
St. Patrick's Day was a lucky day at Williamsburg! Mrs. Johnson's Reading Group presented a Leprechaun play to Mrs. Nelson's fifth grade class! Mrs. McKinney's Reading Group took a virtual field trip to Ireland and learned about Irish traditions! Many staff and students dressed in green to celebrate the day!
Rockingham County Schools
Volunteers were everywhere at the Reading Bug event, which was held earlier this month! The Reading Bug is such a successful way to engage with families and begin the journey of early learning and accessing the written word! Instructional Support Services shined as they spoke with young children and families! Rockingham County Schools Early Learning Head Start Program was represented by several fine early learning educators!
It is very exciting for Dillard Academy and Stoneville Elementary to be learning more about Piedmont Legacy Trails! Thank you for Rockingham Education Foundation for your support! We are ready to trailblaze for RCS!
