The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School
Parent Teacher Conferences
Did you do well in school as a student? Who was supportive of your education as a kid growing up? Do you have any questions about your son or daughter's learning? Would you like to get another perspective of what is happening in middle school everyday?
Please consider attending Parent Teacher Conferences on Monday or Tuesday next week. On Monday, we'll be here from 5-8pm and Tuesday will be from 12:30-3pm and again from 5-8pm. This is a great opportunity to speak with your child's teachers about their progress, successes, struggles, and behavior. Plus the BOOK FAIR will be here and you can do some holiday shopping for your youngster. (They have more than just books).
Our counselors, administrators, and other support staff will be here as well to answer any questions you may have. We hope you will take some time to visit us next week. If you have never attended a middle school conference, I would encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and visit us. If you still need an incentive, we'll have coffee and cookies while you wait.
Extra Credit Union
Parents: Want to start savings for your student’s first car? Or start saving for college?
Open an account for your student with Extra Credit Union and start saving today! Ashley, a representative from Extra Credit Union, visits Carleton MS for credit union day on the second Tuesday of each month during all lunches. During that time, your student can open an account, or even deposit money to an account they already have with the credit union.
Plus- students can get paid for getting good grades!!! That’s right. Students with an account at Extra Credit Union get $2 for every “A” on their report card and $1 for every “B” with the credit union’s Good Grades Pay program. See? It pays {literally} to do well in school!
For more information please see Ashley on the next scheduled credit union day or contact her by email at afordyce@extracreditunion.org with any questions you may have.

Clark's Corner
Parents as we had into Thanksgiving break I feel compelled, however cliche it might be, to share the many things here at Carleton that I am Thankful for.
-I am Thankful for the smiles on our students faces as they see friends and staff that they have relationships with.
-I am Thankful for the secretarial staff that greet our students each day, ask them how their doing, and (when needed) encourage them to be on time.
-I am Thankful for all of our parents who make education a priority, making sure their children are awake, dressed, and ready to arrive at school on time. (My wife reminds me this is not an easy task)
-I am Thankful for our teachers many of whom come in early or stay late planning, preparing, and assessing lessons for our students.
-I am Thankful for Mr. Kausch, and the many members of our administration building that work hard every day to make student centered decisions.
-I am Thankful for our Custodial staff that strives to provide a clean environment for our students at the beginning of everyday, and I am thankful for the students that stop and pick up someone else's trash for the same reason.
-I am Thankful for our kitchen and lunchroom staff that make sure over 700 students each lunch everyday.
-I am Thankful for all of our staff that share their concerns and success with our students, I know what it means to lay awake at night thinking about how I can help just one child, and our staff does that regularly
-Most of all I am Thankful for the community members who stop to say hello, and the students who share their memories of Carleton after they have gone, and the students that take a moment to greet me with a smile. My first Carleton students are now in college, and I could not imagine a better community to be a part of.
