From Desk of Administration
Missing 10% (or about 18 days of a school year) can drastically affect a student’s academic success.
By the 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that can indicate if a student is at risk for dropping out of high school.
A student that misses a total of 18 days in one academic school year is considered chronically absent from school.
School Attendance is crucial to students acquiring and maintaining academic gains and social and emotional support as they travel on their educational journey. With the collaborative effort of LES parents, staff and students, we are confident that all students can have successful attendance. This will improve student success in school and in future life.

Nurse's Corner
Prevention and control of communicable diseases are essential responsibilities of the school health staff in reducing school absenteeism and promoting the health of individual students and the general school community. Home/school communication is essential to maintaining a healthy school community.
It is important for parents to keep the School nurse informed of any diagnosis and treatment of illnesses which can be transmitted to others in the school setting. The school nurse will hold all information in a confidential manner as required by law. Information is used to monitor trends within classroom settings and to provide school wide case counts of illness to the School Health Supervisor and State Health Department as required at year end and in the event of intermittent/seasonal outbreaks of illnesses.
The following illnesses are monitored in the school setting:
Fifths Disease
Ringworm
Conjunctivitis
Mononucleosis
Strep
Flu
Gastrointestinal illness
Chicken Pox
Mumps
Meningitis
MRSA
Hand Foot and Mouth
Molloscum Contagiousum
Please contact your child’s school nurse if you have any questions during an illness and/or prior to returning to school. Always send a note for any absence due to illness. Home/school communication is essential to maintaining a healthy school community. Thank you for your time and cooperation in this matter.

Random Acts of Kindness Week 2020!
We are excited to announce that we are participating in Random Acts of Kindness Week 2020 where we will join thousands of schools across the country to create a culture of kindness.
Your child is part of a powerful and positive bullying prevention initiative that will lead to more kindness, unity, and respect at school and beyond. We will participate in the challenge between February 10th and February 14th.
As part of Random Acts of Kindness Week, we are going to have a fun-spirited week. Each day is designated as a Spirit Day with a theme (see below).
Random Acts of Kindness Week takes place for one week each year, always taking place in mid-February. It is a week dedicated to kindness and taking that extra, conscious step to brighten somebody’s day. It was originated by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, with the intention of encouraging more harmony and kindness between people by offering thoughtful gestures of kindness, no matter how big or small. It is closely linked to Random Acts of Kindness Day, which is usually during the same time period as Random Acts of Kindness Week.
