School Resumes on Monday!

AQUIN SCHOOLS WILL BE IN SESSION REGARDLESS OF ANY DECISION

MADE BY FREEPORT DISTRICT 145.

  • We have few (if any) children who walk to school.
  • 'Snow days' must be made up (think June :)
  • We need to complete final exams before the end of semester (which is Friday, January 10).
  • Beltline Cafe needs advance notice so as to not waste food.
  • Students and staff are strongly encouraged to wear layers of clothing to keep warm during the school day.
  • Families who rely on Freeport busing are encouraged to make alternate plans now, in case Freeport cancels on Monday.

We will be on Mass Schedule at the High School Campus on Thursday, January 9. The Ring Ceremony (postponed from December 20) will be held in the Aquin Auditorium.

Bring ‘Victory’ Back to Stephenson County!

For the past 5 years, Aquin has 'kicked off' Catholic Schools Week (the last week in January) with the 'Crosstown Classic' on the last Sunday of January. This year we will be taking a break from the 'Crosstown'. Instead, as the Winter Olympics in Sochi start on February 6th, Aquin will host the Stephenson County Winter Olympics on Sunday, January 26th.

Bring ‘Victory’ Back to Stephenson County!

Ever want to compete in--or watch--the Winter Olympics? Well now’s your chance--and you don’t have to travel to Russia! The Aquin Servant Leaders are pleased to announce the ‘2014 Stephenson County Winter Olympics’. Official Olympic events include hockey, bobsled, curling and biathlon. All events will be held indoors though, so we’ve had to make some minor modifications to the events. Complete game information and rules can be found here soon.

All proceeds of this one-day event will go to the Civil War Monument Fund formed to save the Stephenson County Soldiers Monument. One goal of the restoration of the monument is to restore ‘Victory’, a statue that tops the monument. Let’s bring ‘Victory’ back to Stephenson County!

The 2014 Stephenson County Winter Olympics will be held on Sunday, January 26 at Aquin High School. A ‘Torch Run’ will begin at the Stephenson County Soldiers Monument in Downtown Freeport and end at Aquin High School. Opening Ceremonies will then begin in the Aquin gymnasium at noon with competitions immediately following. The crowning of the Gold Medal Team will be the highlight of the Closing Ceremonies scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.

Teams of 10 persons must register in advance with a limit of 16 teams. The team registration fee of $50 in advance, or $60 after January 20, completes your registration and guarantees you a spot (if you are one of the first 16 teams to register and pay). Team members must be residents of towns in Stephenson County: Freeport, Dakota, Pearl City, Orangeville, Cedarville and German Valley. Team registration is available online at www.aquinschools.org/2014olympics.cfm or in the Aquin High School office at 1419 South Galena in Freeport.

Spectator admissions at the door are $4 for adults, $3 for students and seniors over 60. Children 5 and under are free. Food will be available throughout the day in the cafeteria. Doors open at 11:00am. If you have any further questions, please contact laura.diemer@aquinschools.org or call 815.235.3154 x 226.
