Starbucks Mode
Grades 3-12
Big Idea
Turn your independent work time in your classroom into "coffee shop" work mode. Create a relaxing, focused environment with #starbucksmode.
Directions
Depending on your classroom, Starbucks Mode may mean...
- respect the quiet, zen, coffee-shop vibe
- you can listen to music with headphones
- you can sit anywhere you'd like
- quiet background music may be playing
- remember we are all strangers in the "coffee shop", so don't be that weirdo talking to strangers :)
When to Use
You could use this during any independent work time - writing, editing, reading, math, science, social students. Students learn to find the type of seating that works best for them.
Strategy Variations
You could kick off your classroom "Starbucks Mode" with hot chocolate or coffee shop treats!
*I believe this idea originated from Megan Forbes at too cool for middle school.
