New Appointment to Moa iti (Rm 4 - Small Moa Room)
We are very excited to announce Marcelle Messenger and Rangi Adams have been appointed to form a fulltime fixed term teacher from the beginning of term 3 until the end of term 4. Marcelle and Rangi will join Alice and Tracy in Moa iti (Rm 4).
We are indeed privileged to offer both Marcelle and Rangi this position and we are confident the transition will be seamless as the students currently in Moa iti (Rm 4) have gotten to know both Whaea Marcelle and Matua Rangi in their various roles here at IPS.
We are also privileged that we have the collaborative space Moa iti (Room 4) offers as well as our hall / canteen and outside play area, which continues to provide fabulous spaces for learning through play and play based learning. We are also delighted that our student to teacher ratio will be kept to between 1:16 – 1:20 for each full time teacher equivalent, ensuring a positive, successful start to schooling for all.
All current students in Moa iti (Room 4) will maintain their current strong relationships and learning groupings with both Ms Turner and Mrs Smith, while the majority students to the area will naturally be introduced to both Whaea Marcelle and Matua Rangi.
Matua Rangi Adams is working in Moa iti (Room 4) this week as Ms Turner is away sick and he is loving it. All Juniors know Whaea Marcelle as she has been taking Kapahaka on Fridays since the beginning of the year.
We are confident the transition will go smoothly and the students will enjoy having a smaller learning group sizes. We encourage all parents to make yourself known to both Rangi and Marcelle as and when you see them about.

Paid Union Meeting - Thursday 28 June
You may be aware of the nationwide crisis in recruiting and retaining teachers.
While there are many more children coming into the school system, there are not enough new teachers being trained. Urgent significant changes are needed to ensure that the teaching profession can attract the people it needs to ensure class sizes do not increase.
On Thursday June 28 2018, the teachers from this school will be attending a NZEI Te Riu Roa paid union meetiung regarding the campaign.
Our teaching staff are members of NZEI and are legally entitled to attend their paid union meeting which starts at 2pm.
I strongly encourage parents to make arrangements to pick their child children in the Junior School Year 1 - 2 by 1:30pm or when we break for lunch at 1230 if that is easier.
Please not all Y3 - 8 students DO NOT Have School at all this day due to learning conferences.
Y8 Students attending Inglewood High School will be required to attend the open afternoon 1 - 3pm as per the letter which has been sent to the parents.
If you are unable to pick you children up for the afternoon of the Paid Union Meeting, please advise us so that your child/children can be supervised until 3pm.
I appreciate that this creates some inconvenience for families. However, I encourage you to support your teachers as they strive to achieve the changes which will safeguard quality education for all children and ensure we keep teaching an attractive profession to graduates.
Anyone who may need help with arrangements should contact the school office.

Best Caretaker Ever
The Hits Radio Station are wanting to thank New Zealand for voting STIHL SHOP as their favourite Gardening Equipment Retailer, STIHL SHOP and The Hits are coming together to give something back to the local community through the Love Your Land, Love Your School campaign. We think our school caretakers do a fantastic job and we want to make life just that little bit easier for them by giving them the best Power Tools available.
Nominate your Caretaker below that you think does an awesome job. Tell us a bit about them and send us in a photo or video to show why they deserve to be treated to this awesome prize! The winning Caretaker will win $10,000 worth of STIHL SHOP Products for their school and a well deserved holiday away for them and another person to somewhere special in New Zealand.
Our caretaker, Mr Harland, is very caring. He always has a smile and is very polite.
We have never seen him get impatient, even when we get our sports equipment stuck on the roof. He will always stop what he is doing to help a student or staff member in need. Mr Harland takes road patrol and never complains when it rains. He says good morning to everyone who passes and waves to people who drive past.
Mr Harland sweeps up the leaves that gather around our bus stop and trims the trees above us to keep it looking tidy. He never stops working but finds time in the day to get everything done. We have an indoor pool which takes a lot of time to maintain but he does so without complaint. Mr Harland supplies us with spare towels and togs when we forget ours. He washes and dries these by himself so they are always clean for the next day. Mr Harland chills the milk and counts out the right amount for each class every day. If they have not been folded properly when the milk containers come back, he folds them himself. Mr Harland washes and folds all of our sports uniforms and pumps up the sports balls when they go flat. If something needs to be fixed or built, Mr Harland does it.
He also does all of the rubbish and recycling at our school. We are so lucky to go to a school with beautiful grounds and buildings. Mr Harland would never complain about having old tools but he would really appreciate new ones. He works rain or shine, all year long to keep our school looking gorgeous. He deserves a holiday away with his wife, Mrs Harland. Please consider our caretaker for your STIHL Shop Best Caretaker competition, he's an absolute legend.
