Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter
Friday, June 12, 2020
Message From the Principal:
Hello Parents,
It is surreal to think that this will be the last newsletter of the 2019-2020 school year.
Without question, this has been the most unique year of my 19 year career in education. These past few months of remote learning have been trying in a myriad of ways. Students, parents, and school personnel have all experienced increased levels of stress due to the pandemic and current events in society. The one immutable constant in our lives - young people simply going to school each day - ceased and was replaced with uncertainty and change. We all adapted as quickly as we could. Things were not perfect, but we we adjusted and learned from our mistakes.
While we do not yet know what school will look like in the fall, we do know that together, we can get through anything.
This newsletter celebrates students in many ways. Our last set of Students of the Month, our 6th & 7th grade award winners, glimpses into classrooms and a Senior spotlight are included. The schedule for drop off/pick up is also included so please pay particular attention to those details.
Finally, our 8th Promotion Ceremony will premiere on our YouTube channel on Monday night. Graduation for seniors will occur on July 8. Congratulations in advance to both groups of students!! Don't forget to Light Up the Night by decorating your homes for our seniors next week!
In partnership during an unforgettable year!

Mrs. James' Class Hatches Chickens
The students in Regina James' class learned about the Life Cycle of a Chicken. Mrs. James pick up the eggs and all the needed equipment from Quiver Farms in Pennburg, PA, on Tuesday 6/2. As a class we named each egg. Some of the egg names were Bacon, Marinette, Eggo, Tweety and Predator. There were 12 eggs total. They started to hatch on Monday 6/8 and continued to hatch on Tuesday 6/9. It was an amazing process to watch through zoom calls. But, the most special part of this experience was the chick visit to each student’s home. Mrs. James and the students loved seeing one another. The chicks will be returned to Quiver Farms on Friday.
Mrs. Smith's ESL Students
Mrs. Smith and the ESL students have been meeting on Zoom since remote learning began. The class uses it for teaching, important announcements, and help with any classwork. This week, ESL met to say goodbye for the summer and share any fun plans.
Honors Physics with Mr. Kosior
Honors Physics completed a lab to accurately determine the speed of light (a universal constant) using nothing more than a regular microwave and a little melted cheese. They were able to combine their knowledge of standing waves and light with their culinary skills to measure the speed of light with less than 10% error!
See pictures below: (the ones of actual nachos were my own example for the lab instructions)

How is your adjustment to remote learning going?
My adjustment to remote learning has gotten better over time. At first, it was hard to do my work without my teachers present, but eventually I was able to adjust and this new way of learning became normal.
What is the hardest thing about this adjustment? What is one aspect that you enjoy more than traditional school?
The hardest part about online learning for me is having the motivation to stay up to date with my work every day. One aspect of online learning that I do enjoy more than traditional school is that I can choose when to do my homework, based on my schedule.
What are you doing to keep busy when your school work is finished?
When my school work is finished, I have been working, exercising, and hanging with my friends to stay busy.
Which college have you chosen to attend?
I will be attending Rider University in the fall.
What will be your course of study?
I will be studying Business Analytics.
What is one message you would like to share with your fellow seniors at Woodbury High School?
To my fellow seniors, stay safe and have a great last summer before college.
