Winter is the time when many students do not drink as much water as they do when it is warm…which results in many chapped lips! Please send some chapstick in with your child so he/she can keep their lips moist during the day. Also, please continue to send water bottles as drinking plenty of water is just as important in the winter. Thank you!

This week in Literacy our story was Our Brother Martin it was about Martin Luther King Jr. We talked about how he changed the black and the white with these very words I have a dream that one day little black boys and little white girls and little black girls and little white boys will join together and become sisters and brothers. We also did a Peardeck about our vocabulary words. We took are Reading test. In guided reading we got assigned a BOB book the books we got assigned to are Island Of The Blue Dolphins,Best School Year Ever,Million Dollar Shot,Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We also saw the kid president video about Martin Luther King Jr.(Linked here)Our Literacy term is Mood, we learned that mood is when the writer makes the reader feel. With this concept we played a "four walls" game.

With mood we also did a mood writing activity where we had to create a story about someone and Mrs. Hassels should be able to tell what mood we chose. Those were the things we did in Literacy this week.

This week in Science on Monday we sent our cars down a ramp during the Collision Lab. We sent them down with washer and without washers. On Tuesday we did questions about what we learned during the lab. On Wednesday we started a new project. We got to make a car using the Vex kit. We will have to send our car with an egg down a ramp and hope that we protected the egg and it doe snot break. We made sketches of our cars. It was so much fun.On Thursday we got to make a play egg to fit in our car to see if the real egg will fit.On Friday we finished making are car.

This week in writing we wrote a short cause and effect story based off of If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. Mrs. Hassels, Mrs. Price and Miss Mallenger were co- teaching for this lesson. We listened to the story If You Give A Mouse A Cookie through the Smart Board. After that we did a hand signal for cause and effect. Finally, we began our graphic organizers for the story. On Wednesday, Miss Mallenger and Mrs. Sheehan introduced Story Board. They showed us scenes characters and how to search for props. We used our graphic organizer and made our Story Board. That is what we did in Writing.

Mrs. Hassels' Math Class

This week on Monday we started out with a time test. Then we went over the directions for the study guide because the test was on Wednesday. After we did our study guide we worked on our math boxes, and if you didn't finish the study guide it was homework. Next on Tuesday we started math with going over our study guide, after the study guide we did some Jeopardy to practice for the test. On Wednesdaywe did our math test, after the test we read our books to wait for math to be over and some people were still working on the test. On Thursday we didn't switch for math but we did do a test called M-COMP including math in the test. Finally on Friday we went over the math box answers and then the google form kind of like the exit slip to see who gets the test to test-out, and then after that when we were finished we could do front row.

Finnin but she got married.)On Thursday we took a 8 minute time-test with the whole class(regular class.)We all had a lot of fun using Pearson, and a great week of math.
