Winter is the time when many students do not drink as much water as they do when it is warm…which results in many chapped lips! Please send some chapstick in with your child so he/she can keep their lips moist during the day. Also, please continue to send water bottles as drinking plenty of water is just as important in the winter. Thank you!

Literacy
This week in Literacy our story was Our Brother Martin it was about Martin Luther King Jr. We talked about how he changed the black and the white with these very words I have a dream that one day little black boys and little white girls and little black girls and little white boys will join together and become sisters and brothers. We also did a Peardeck about our vocabulary words. We took are Reading test. In guided reading we got assigned a BOB book the books we got assigned to are Island Of The Blue Dolphins,Best School Year Ever,Million Dollar Shot,Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We also saw the kid president video about Martin Luther King Jr.(Linked here)Our Literacy term is Mood, we learned that mood is when the writer makes the reader feel. With this concept we played a "four walls" game.
With mood we also did a mood writing activity where we had to create a story about someone and Mrs. Hassels should be able to tell what mood we chose. Those were the things we did in Literacy this week.

Writing
This week in writing we wrote a short cause and effect story based off of If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. Mrs. Hassels, Mrs. Price and Miss Mallenger were co- teaching for this lesson. We listened to the story If You Give A Mouse A Cookie through the Smart Board. After that we did a hand signal for cause and effect. Finally, we began our graphic organizers for the story. On Wednesday, Miss Mallenger and Mrs. Sheehan introduced Story Board. They showed us scenes characters and how to search for props. We used our graphic organizer and made our Story Board. That is what we did in Writing.
