July 9, 2021 - Summer Break Edition
Hope you're enjoying your break!
Free lunch for 2021-22 school year
As a part of the United States Department of Agriculture’s national COVID-19 waiver program, Westfield Washington Schools will be providing breakfast and lunch meals for FREE, all year long, to all Pre K-12 students, whether you apply for free/reduced lunch or not. You will still need to apply for the free/reduced program in order to receive financial assistance for curricular materials (textbooks, workbooks, classroom novels, online resources, and supplies like science lab chemicals, and art supplies).
What is considered a free meal?
Students can receive one free lunch AND one free breakfast per school day. Meals must meet the existing USDA guidelines in order to be free, meaning meals MUST include an entrée, fruit/vegetables and milk. A la carte/snack items (extra entrees, beverages, and snacks/drinks) will still be an additional charge.
Do we still need Lunch Time accounts?
Yes, students can still use lunch accounts to purchase additional meals, snacks and a la carte items. If a student does not take an entrée, fruit/veggie AND a milk, their Lunch Time account will be charged for the a la carte items.
Are pre-K snacks free?
Pre-K snacks will NOT be free as the waiver only applies to two MEALS per day.
Hoosier Home Repair Week
About 250 people, mostly high schoolers, from around the country completed repairs on 26 homes in northern Hamilton County. High schoolers and their adult leaders from 8 states, from states like Nebraska, New Hampshire and New Jersey participated. In groups of 5-7 people, they spent their days with a homeowner, doing significant home repairs including, mobile home skirting, building wheelchair ramps, constructing decks, and doing exterior painting for FREE for the residents.
The program coordinators said that WWS Central Office employees Joe Montalone and Jo Ann Neff went above and beyond to make sure the group was properly accommodated as they used Westfield Middle School as their home base.
