Ms. Erickson's Classroom Snippet
Take a Peek into our Week!
October 13 th - October 16 th
Math: We will review our 2 digit addition unit to assess on Wednesday. Then, we will begin our unit on measurement by participating in hands-on activities measuring length.
Reading: In Reader’s Workshop, we will be looking at strategies that help us to have strong comprehension. Our focal point will continue to be inferring. The focus will be working on making sense of new information with narrative nonfiction. We are going to be using texts that create mental pictures and inferences which help students better understand information.
Writing: This week, we will continue learning about “zooming into a small moment”. We will continue writing “small moments” to share with others. We will continue to develop strong leads to “hook” readers at the beginning of our writing and learn about different endings to conclude our writing.
Please continue to work with your child to ensure that they always write in complete sentences, always begin each sentence with capital letter, and have appropriate punctuation at the end of a sentence.
Sight Words: This week we are learning the following words: again, boy, car, fine, here, myself, sat, through
Please continue to work with your child to read, write, and spell these words with consistency.
Science & Social Studies: During this short week, student will conduct experiments about sound and light energy. They will visit stations learning how sound is made, why light is important, and how they change. This will complete the light, sound, and heat energy unit.
Conferences
I have created the following sign-up to register for a parent-teacher conference.
Thank you in advance for being on time and taking time away from your busy schedules to discuss the progress of your child. I look forward to talking with you.
PBL
For the following week's homework, I am making a change to your child's homework. Your child's homework will be to visit their assigned Round Rock location to take pictures and gather any information that may be useful to educate others in our community.
To prepare for the homework change, I will go into more details this week, I am sending home a sign-up sheet (Tuesday in your child's planner) for you and your child to discuss and decide together which of the places you would like to visit. Please return the paper by Wednesday in your child's planner.

Community Service
Our class will be collecting extra candy on November 1st to donate to the Texas Baptist Children's Home. Through our upcoming landmark research we have learned that the TBCH takes candy, as well as, other donations to distribute to the families and children in need. Our class thought this would be a great way to give back to the community. Just keep this little piece of information if you should have any extra candy after the holidays are over.
Virtual Book Fair
On Tuesday, students had the opportunity to create a "wish list" for this week's bookfair. Please know that in no way are you obligated to purchase the items listed. If you would like to send in money with your child, please send it in their money pouch in their planner. Please make sure that your remember to add 8.25% for tax.
