Updates from the Principal
Greetings Firebird Nation Families -
Happy New Year! 2021 is here! Our staff has been excited to see their students return this week and begin our 3rd Quarter! We look forward to a successful second half of the 20-21 school year.
We learned today that we are on track for our return to In-Person learning on Monday, January 25th for Secondary Schools. The county data continues to decline, though it has leveled off slightly. We are optimistic that we will continue to see these declines to keep us on track for this return. If anything changes, we will let you know. Please make sure to complete our Enrollment Preference form for 3rd Quarter, if you have not done so already. We have included the link to this survey in the section below. This will help us make any schedule adjustments needed to ensure we are maximizing our cohorts with social-distancing protocols.
For students returning to In-Person Learning on January 25th, we will still follow our processes and procedures as we did back in September. They are all contained in our Return to Learn Plan (Linked Here) and Overview Video (see below). Masks covering the nose and mouth will still be required for students participating in In-Person learning. Teams will be providing opportunities for mask breaks throughout the day. We will also continue to offer lunch outside each day as weather permits. We have back up plans in place if there are adverse weather conditions or if it is too cold. Students should bring a water bottle since we only have access to the hydration station portion of the drinking fountains.
Remember, beginning on January 25th, students participating in In-Person Learning at FMS will be at the building on the following days:
Last Names A - J: At FMS on Mondays and Tuesdays, and E-Learning Wed. Thurs. Fri.
Last Names K - Z: At FMS on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and E-Learning Mon. Tues. Fri.
Please note: We will work to make adjustments to this schedule when there are weeks with a Holiday on Monday or specific weather days called as best as we can. We will communicate with you when this occurs.
Remember that we follow the FLEX Schedule, as posted on our E-Learning page, each Friday. This contains shortened check-in classes for every class with time built in later in the morning at afternoon for SST (Student Success Time). We will begin offering SST starting on Friday, January 22nd. Teachers will be communicating with families when SST is required. This is a time that they will work with students to get caught up, provide academic interventions to get students back on track, and provide help with their work.
I hope everyone has a great start to 2021 and wish all of our students success in this 3rd Quarter. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We would be happy to help!
Welcome Back!
Sincerely,
Brian Smith

WILL YOUR STUDENT BE PARTICIPATING FOR 3rd QUARTER IN E-LEARNING OR IN-PERSON?
As we have arrived in 3rd Quarter, we will need to know if your students will be a full-time E-Learner OR if they will be attending school in-person 2 days a week.
As of today, and with continued improvement in county health data, the return to in-person learning will occur on January 25, 2021 for FMS students that choose that option.
We will follow the same plan as we did during earlier this school year:
last names of A-J would attend in-person on Mondays and Tuesdays;
last names of K-Z would attend in-person on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
(If your student was an exception to that rule, you would follow the same plan as you did previously.)
DUE TODAY, THIS FORM NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED FOR EVERY STUDENT AT FMS.
