Relationships and Roommates
Family, friends, partners, roommates; our world often revolves around our connections to others. New students often experience imbalance in their web of relationships during the first semester. Forging new relationships or letting go of old connections can be both exciting and stressful at the same time.
In some cases, communicating how we are feeling with those we care for or spend the most time with can be difficult. For example, sharing a room with another person may be an unfamiliar experience for you or your roommate. Each roommate may have different expectations about schedules, room upkeep, and their friendship that could cause stress between you two.
Being able to talk to your roommate in a positive, proactive way can often clear up misunderstandings and create a much happier and healthier living environment! The Residence Life Office has put together some quick tips below that may help you walk through this communication process. Don't forget, if you need a hand or have questions your RA's and RD's are here to help you!
