California Assessment for Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)
Each year, students across the state of California participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). All students at East Avenue will take assessments from the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) to measure their progress towards academic standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Eighth graders will also take the California Science Test (CAST).
The results will assist teachers, the school and district to make informed decisions on the quality instruction being delivered. The testing schedule is available on our website and will also be emailed home the second week of April.
There are several things you can do to make sure your student is well prepared for the assessments.
Helpful Hints
Attendance is key! Please do not schedule appointments during testing times.
Talk about the test with your student.
Tell your student that you and their teacher expect them to try their very best on each and every test.
Remain positive and encouraging.
Take a practice test with your student, so they know what to expect. CAASPP Practice Test
Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast before testing.
We understand that standardized tests are only a snapshot into a child's academic abilities, but it is an important piece. We hope that each student does their best everyday and will help us to show just how fabulous the Dolphins are.

8th Grade Activities
Eighth grade year-end activities are just around the corner. We are looking forward to celebrating three years of hard work on the part of your students. In March, you were emailed a packet of information regarding timelines, a promotion activities order form, dance order form, and permission slip for Discovery Kingdom.
Participation in all eighth grade activities requires students to be in good academic standing with no Fs, have not have been suspended, and paid all fines and returned all books.
We are hopeful that all of our students will participate in the planned activities. If you are interested in volunteering to chaperone the trip to Discovery Kingdom, decorating and chaperoning the Promotion Dance and decorating for the ceremony, please contact the office.
Please continue to keep abreast of your student's progress in their classes. Should you have any questions about your student's academic performance, please contact their teachers via email or by phone.

East Avenue Athletics
East Avenue spring sports are in full swing!
Wrestling
Our wrestling team, coached by our fantastic son and father duo of Branden and Curtis Olson, completed the Tri-Valley League championships. We had several top finishers. Augie Lollis (6th) finished fourth and seventh grade boys Vincent Gomes and Will Kelleher placed second and fourth respectively. Our eighth team ended in third place overall. Individually, Hunter Diemert placed second, Jonah Andrus placed first, Victor Leal came in first, as did Daltin Silva. Congratulations wrestlers and coaches!
Volleyball
Coach Ashley Estrada is well under way developing and training our teams. Girls volleyball has shown great promise with our A and B teams just beginning their league games. We had a large turnout of girl volleyball players this season, enough to field a developmental 6th grade team as well! The next home game is April 11th for our A and B squads.
Golf
Golf is currently practicing and preparing for their next match on April 9th at Las Positas at 3:30pm. We have great group of hardworking golfers and Coach Michael Alvillar is skilled at teaching the wonderful game of golf!
Track and Field
Track and Field is underway with practice and a record number of talented distance runners, sprinters, and jumpers. We hope to defend our middle school record in the 4 X 100 relay for the 6th year in a row! Coaches Rob Dayton, Shannon Dash, and Jill Dayton are conditioning and training our team to excellence.
Thank you to all our parents and supporters of East Ave Athletics! Go Dolphins!!
