Gator Greetings
Gators are Super Readers! We enjoyed celebrating Read Across America Day on Wednesday, March 2nd, by being Super Readers. We started the day with one of our favorite authors, Shannon Anderson. She hosted a school-wide zoom after morning announcements where she shared with us her new book and also shared about having a Growth Mindset and believing in yourself regardless of your failures. Teachers then celebrated reading all day in their classrooms with other special activities. It was a great day!
Next week, students in 3rd grade will participate in the IREAD3 standardized assessment. They have been working hard to prepare for this assessment and we have no doubt they will do a fantastic job. The schedule will be a bit altered next week to support 3rd graders. Families can encourage their students by talking to them about giving their best effort and being confident in their reading skills and abilities while not overly worrying about the test.
We want to give a huge SHOUT OUT to Mrs. Switalski and Mrs. Adams 3rd Grade classrooms for being finalists in the I Love to Reach Challenge! This challenge is a partnership between WISH-TV and the NCAA’s Readers Are Leaders program. It started with over 100 3rd grade classrooms from all over central Indiana 8 weeks ago, narrowed down to the two finalists, with students reading an average of over 11 hours this week! This is the first time in 31 years of the challenge that both finalists have been from the same school. These classrooms were competing for a visit from WISH-TV with a pizza party, classroom library update from Scholastic Books, special guests, tickets to the NCAA Hall of Champions, and “something extra special”. It was a true “battle of the books” to the end. This morning, Mrs. Switalski’s class won The Challenge. Check out this video clip from the live news broadcast on WISH-TV this morning: Challenge Winner. Congratulations to our 3rd Grade Super Readers!
Now that we are in the month of March and spring is in the air, there are many exciting activities coming up including The Great North Run, Family STEM Night, Gator Jam for grades 4-5, Spring Book Fair, 2nd Grade Family Folk Dance and more. Be sure to check out the Calendar of Events and mark your calendars for everything coming up at Allisonville.

Student SEL Survey
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. As you may already be aware, building our social-emotional learning (SEL) skills is an important goal for our school this year. Over the next several weeks, students and teachers will participate in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.
We will be asking for your learner to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing at school. The survey shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to complete. The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on their confidence in themselves as learners, how they interact with others, if they feel a sense of belonging in their classroom and overall school climate.
We are asking that all of our students in grades 3-12 participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor called Panorama to support us in administering these surveys.
You can learn about the student surveys at the link HERE and for frequently asked questions refer to the link HERE. If you have any additional questions or concerns about the SEL survey, please don’t hesitate to contact your school’s survey coordinator, Beth Stewart at estewart@msdwt.k12.in.us.
