September 2022

Welcome to the 22/23 School Year!

Dear Families,

The first few weeks of the year have gone well and we are off to a strong start! Thank you for your efforts in supporting your child at VPC.

Our priorities this year are literacy, belonging, and awareness. We are looking forward to sharing more with you about each of these in the coming months.

Attendance is so important in meeting these priorities. We ask for your partnership in making sure your child comes to school every day. Instruction happens from 8:00 - 3:00 so please arrive on time and try to schedule appointments for after 3:00.

Be on the lookout for our monthly newsletter and reach out with any questions!

Take care,

Mrs. Foerg

Village Prep Cliffs Ambassadors

We are excited to launch our student leader Ambassador program! Ambassadors were chosen over the summer and will receive training and development this year. Ambassadors help us build a school of belonging and awareness.

What are Ambassadors?

Ambassadors are VPC students who are trained and supervised to offer support by practicing the 5 Keys, welcoming and mentoring new students, showing leadership among our community, and mentoring younger students.

Why have Ambassadors?
Ambassadors can relate to peers in a supportive way, provide positive leadership, offer input for school culture improvement, and have experiences in some of the same issues as their peers.

Awareness Committee

As part of our awareness priority, we have a committee of teachers working to build our understanding and compassion for other cultures. Each month will have a focus. See below for the schedule.

September - Hispanic Heritage

October - Anti-Bullying/Unity Day

November - Indigenous People

December - Holidays Around the World

January - What Makes Our Students Special

February - African American Heritage

March - Women's History

April - Autism Acceptance

May - Asian Pacific Islander Heritage

Unity Circle

Every month, we gather as a school community for Unity Circle. Our first one was last Friday. We shared our school-wide Compass Commitments and discussed how we can show them each day. Our Commitments are:

I commit to including all community members.

I commit to keeping myself and others safe.

I commit to seeing the whole person.

I commit to speaking from my heart, but using my head.

I commit to seeking diversity of perspective.

I commit to walking my talk.

Ask your scholar sometimes if they can give you an example of how they have lived a Commitment that day.
