A word from Mr. Leonard- September 2019
Dear Sun Path Elementary Families:
Welcome back to another great year at Sun Path. It has been nice to connect with our returning students, and meet so many new faces. This newsletter includes important information and dates for the start of the school year. We have a nice start to the school year, but I do have some important reminders and some new information.
- Students should not get to school before 8:10 each morning.
- Parents and visitors should go to the office to sign in if they want to be in the building before and during school.
- Parents are always welcome to come and eat lunch with their child. If you plan on eating the school lunch when you are here, it is helpful if you call before school starts. This allows the kitchen to plan for your visit. We are asking that if you are having lunch with your child and they want to invite a friend, they are welcome to invite one friend (if there is room).
Our online conference scheduler is now open. Click on the link below and use your parent portal login. If you need help resetting your password, please contact the office at 952-496-5892.
Inside this newsletter you will see information from our PTO. The PTO is a great way to get involved in your child’s education. I encourage you all to attend a future PTO meeting. The next one is Oct. 8th at 7:00 PM in the cafeteria.
Our Read-A-Thon will be here soon, October 15th. This is a fun day and our PTO’s only major fundraiser of the year. Envelopes to collect pledges and more information will go home Wednesday, September 26th.
Take Care,
Patrick Leonard
PTO Read-A-Thon on October 15
The Read-A-Thon is the PTO main fundraiser for the year. With this type of fundraiser, not only does 100% of the money raised go towards Sun Path, but it also promotes reading! The Read-A-Thon kicks off on the September 26 (early release day). The students can collect donations between September 26- October 13. On October 15, the school will celebrate their hard work by spending the day doing fun reading related activities. The kids will have the opportunity earn “incentives” for the money that they raise. Donations can be made in cash or check (made out to Sun Path PTO) and brought to school in your child’s donation envelope on or before October 13th. We are excited this year to offer an online option for secure credit card donations! Please register online through the link below. Enter your name and email address, then click register and follow the instructions. This program allows you to email family and friends and allows them to make secure donations online.

Toys and other valuables
We ask that the students keep toys, fidget spinners,Pokemon cards, cell phones and other valuables at home. These items can be a distraction in the classroom. They also are source of conflict among students. With over 580 students there is a chance for these items being lost, stolen or broken. If a child must bring these items to school they need to remain in their backpack. If the item becomes a distraction the teacher will confiscate the item and return it to the student at the end of the day. If it happens a second time, the item will be turned over to the Principal, and a parent will have to pick up the item.
There are several basketballs, footballs, and kick balls available to the students to use on the playground during recess. If students would like to bring their own from home, please make sure they are clearly labeled. No baseball bats or hard baseballs please.
Birthday Treat List
On your child’s birthday, Mr. Leonard will announce their name during morning announcements. The students will come down to the office and receive a birthday book & pencil. The students who have a birthday on the weekend or during a break, will have his/her name announced the day prior to the break. We will announce half-birthday for those students who have summer birthdays. The books are made possible through a donation by the Sun Path PTO.
