School Updates
Dear WAS Families,
Picture day was a success. If you didn't get a chance to order, there will be a makeup day on November 7th.
Free school lunches have been available to all students for the past two years, but that’s no longer the case. Families that qualify for free or reduced-price meals must once again apply for the benefit, something that hasn’t been required during the pandemic.
By completing this form, you are helping our city as the state’s adequacy calculation includes an additional rate for all students that qualify for free or reduced meals. Additionally, students may qualify for waived fees for some school programs, tests, and college applications.
The Rochester School Department is launching an online meal application to help families complete this very important application. This online meal application is available here or by visiting the “Food Service” webpage on our district’s website.
This application is available to all families, and please be on the lookout for incentives from your student’s school for simply completing the application.

No-Cost Flu Clinics for William Allen School Students
Dear William Allen School Families,
Welcome back to a new school year! This fall, William Allen School will host FREE school-based flu clinics for all students where your child can get their annual flu vaccine. William Allen School’s clinic will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. All vaccinations will be given by trained medical staff through the Strafford County Public Health Network, in cooperation with the New Hampshire Immunization Program (Division of Public Health Services).
Why sign your child up for this year’s flu clinic?
It is provided at NO COST to your family.
Your child will be less likely to get the flu and miss school time.
You won’t have to make a trip to your medical provider. The best way to protect against the flu and its complications is to get a flu vaccine each year. Anyone can catch the flu, but rates of infection are often highest among children. Some children may suffer from complications if they have other health conditions like asthma, diabetes, or heart disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services recommend that everyone six months of age and older get a flu vaccine. Your child’s vaccination information is confidential and protected by state and federal law. Vaccination information is safely stored in New Hampshire’s Immunization Information System (NHIIS), which brings together information from different health care providers into a single permanent record. Your child’s immunization record is available to you at any time. Additional information on the NHIIS is available at dhhs.nh.gov/nhiis. Information on how you can opt your child out of participating in the NHIIS can also be found at the website listed above, and will be shared with you prior to the flu clinics. Vaccine Information Statements provided from the CDC are available at the following link to help answer your questions: cdc.gov/vaccines/hcp/vis/vis-statements/flu.pdf . You may also direct questions to your school nurse.
