Preschool News!!
Miss Courtney's Class!!
On Monday, we started our day with some snowy choice time. We brought in snow from outside and gave the kiddos eye droppers and watercolors. They had to figure out how to use the eyedroppers ( harder than you think for little hands!) and then we experimented with the colors. We turned the snow orange, red, purple, blue and green. The kids loved making rainbow snowmen and touching the cold snow. Some other friends chose to look at our different collections and manipulated the nuts and bolts and the keys. Others were called over to Miss Becky's table to make letter "L." They had to look at different pictures cards that started with the letter L and highlight the L in the word. Then, we glued them onto the letter L. Other kiddos chose to play with the wooden Handwriting Without Tears pieces at the rug. They sang the matman song and worked on making matman with the wooden pieces. Today we made a blueberry, peach, banana and strawberry smoothie in class. It was so declious! We are all improving upon looking at, touching, smelling, tasting, and hearing our smoothie ( the blender noise, slurping our delicious smoothie) . All of our senses were at work at the same time. Great job kids!
We also pulled out a new swing this week! It is a net type of swing that cradles your body and everyone got to try it. We swung high, low, fast and slow. We spun the kids and worked on simple requests like more, all done, faster, slower etc... .You can ride the swing with a partner and like a horse. Depending on comfort levels everyone was trying something different. We counted the number of swings that we did and talked about more and less.
During time on the rug, we did some yoga this week. The kids took turns picking the pose they wanted to do from a choice of 2. Everyone stayed on task, did the poses and liked being involved by having a choice. We counted to ten for each pose, everyone stretched their bodies and did well following along. I am always blown away by how fast the kids are able to understand and follow through with the poses.
We read several books this week. We reread "Polar Bear Polar Bear" and the kids ended up reading it to us! They are getting so good at using the props, repeating the text and predicting what comes next. Repetition is so good for storytelling time! We also read "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats. We learned about how Peter ( the boy in the story) goes out into the snow and makes tracks with his feet, finds a stick and takes a snowball inside his warm house. Afterwards, we got to Finger-Paint a snowy day scene and added a cutout of Peter. We worked on following positional directions by painting the mountian on the bottom of the paper and added snowflakes on the top.
