Circulatory System and Homeostasis
Ashley S. and Chloe P.
Definition
Circulation is necessary for sustenance. Nutrients must be supplied to the blood for transport to other areas of the body by the blood, blood vessels, and the heart. Wastes must be removed.
Blood
Blood is composed of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. red blood cells transport O2 from the lungs to the tissues of the body and take away the CO2. White blood cells seek and identify foreign bacteria, viruses, and fungi so that they can be removed. Platelets release clot-causing chemicals that can plug up narrowed blood vessels. Wounds are patched by platelets.

Blood Pressure
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is an increased pressure on artery walls. Blood pressure can elevate due to poor diet and cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, or vomiting. Chronic high blood pressure also exists and can lead to heart attacks, heart failure, strokes, and kidney failure. Working out, eating healthy, and medicating (if needed) can help treat hypertension.
Circulatory System
Lungs fill your blood with O2 and get rid of the excess CO2.
Body Tissues need oxygen for movement. The respiratory system supplies oxygen and helps remove waste from the lungs. While products of the lymphatic and endocrine systems are spread by the circulatory system.Examples
● Unicellular organisms are able to reach their needs by diffusion and not circulatory systems.
● Plants form of circulation is photosynthesis. They use energy from the sun to move H2O, CO2, and H2O
● Animals (don’t use a vertebrate). Invertebrates use open circulatory systems. Both waste and nutrients are moved through the body by free fluids without the use of veins.

Arteriosclerosis (Circulatory System Disease)
Arteriosclerosis is a disease involving the hardening and narrowing of arteries caused by the buildup of fat and cholesterol. This can increase one’s risk of heart failure and can stop blood flow to muscles. Symptoms include chronic leg pain, numbness of the legs, loss of leg or arm hair, and changes in leg coloration. Some treatments of Arteriosclerosis include diets with honey, lemon, green tea, or ginger, all of which can help thin and increase the blood flow.
