BARBER BULLETIN
Week of February 27-March 3
Preparing for an Emergency........
Please remember to keep safety first throughout the day for you and your students. Here are a few safety tips to remember to ensure that everyone in the building remains safe.
Address adults in the building who do not have visitor passes. This could be as simple as asking, “Do you need help finding a classroom?” and following up by asking, “Have you already been to the front desk?” Please notify administration if you see an adult in the building and you do not feel comfortable addressing them.
Is your class roster updated in your emergency folder? We have a very transient population at Pontiac. Consider updating your roster whenever you receive a new student so that if there’s an emergency you’ll have the correct roster with you.
Continue talking with your students about safety. We’ve noticed that when we practice drills that our students are responding according to our safety procedures. Please continue to make safety discussions part of your community meetings/morning meetings you have with your students.
Keep your classroom doors locked. This would keep you from having to locate keys during an emergency or drill. When we have a drill/emergency you could simply close your door and quickly prepare your students for the drill/emergency we’re dealing with at the time.
The district has shared valuable safety information with all schools. Below you will find links to the FEMA website. The links have information on setting up an incident command center for extreme emergency on a school campus and tips for emergency planning for schools. Please take time to view these links at your leisure.
