A Year in the Life

Co Carlow Chamber honouring Carlow Businesses

The Arboretum Lifestyle & Garden Centre, Ireland’s first 5 star garden centre, was founded in 1976 by entrepreneur Rachel Doyle who, after graduating from college, identified that there was a niche in the market that she could fill. Before long, the business was a growing success and in 1979, Rachel was joined by her husband Frank.

Today, CEO Rachel runs Arboretum alongside her two sons, Fergal and Barry, who first got involved in the family business in 2000. Since joining the company, Fergal and Barry have helped Arboretum expand and grow on its stunning 10 acre site in Leighlinbridge, including launching their online store arboretum.ie.

With its growing success, Arboretum has attracted brands such as the Edinburgh Woollen Mills and other concession stores to enhance the Arboretum experience and give customers the ultimate shopping day out for all the family. In 2012, Arboretum launched its award-winning in-store restaurant Rachel’s Garden Café, winner of the Irish Restaurant Association’s Best Casual Dining in Co. Carlow award.

An expert in her field, Rachel will take over as President of the ‘International Garden Centre Association’ this coming October, the first time such a prestigious title has ever come to Ireland. Along with her family and a dedicated team of 63 staff, Rachel is paving the way for continued success and growth for Arboretum in the years ahead.
