Newsletter Term 2 Week 2
St Patrick's School Masterton 10th May 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
For the month of May, our school virtue is ‘Joy/ Koa’. This will form the basis of school, syndicate and class prayer that take place during the month of May. Three key ideas, as shown on our virtue banner displayed in the school office, that we will be sharing with the children include:
Friendship
Keep smiling
Creating & achieving
Yesterday, it was wonderful to hold our first school assembly of the 2022 school year. Led by our house leaders the children enjoyed recognising each other for the great work that has taken place already this term in particular with the award of our hub learner quality certificates and the consideration cup. A reminder that this term assemblies are every second Tuesday at 2.30pm - family and whanau and welcome to join us.
Today the Kildare syndicate students enjoyed taking part in the first of four sessions run by the staff of Netball Wairarapa and Ka Hakinakina. The Kia Hakinakina programme is designed to teach children the fundamentals of movement and play that they can then take into the sporting environment, in this case netball. It teaches things such as how to move, how to be balanced, how to catch and throw effectively, how to strike a ball – the real basics you take into sport.
Finally, can I please bring to everyone's attention a number of issues in regards to safety at the start and end of the school day. In the last week we have seen an increase in cars driving up the school driveway to either drop off or collect children. This has caused issues as there is not a huge amount of room, staff are also trying to enter or leave the school grounds as well as children being in this area. Can we please ask that unless you have a valid reason, agreed to by the school, that you do not drive up or down the driveway in cars. Thank you for your support.
Listed below are key events that are currently planned for term 2:

Gospel Reading
John 13:31-35
The New Commandment
31 After Judas had left, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man's glory is revealed; now God's glory is revealed through him. 32 And if God's glory is revealed through him, then God will reveal the glory of the Son of Man in himself, and he will do so at once. 33 My children, I shall not be with you very much longer. You will look for me; but I tell you now what I told the Jewish authorities, ‘You cannot go where I am going.’ 34 And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 If you have love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.”
Learning Support Coordinator (LSC)
We are continuing to develop our thinking tools especially the use of an Inner Coach rather than an Inner Critic. This week many of the students are looking at a variety of short video clips and analysing if there is an Inner Coach or an Inner Critic at work. This was also spoken about in the TV programme Parental Guidance where the experts spoke about the importance of modelling Inner Coach thinking to children so that they have the skills to take risks.
Today some of our Kildare students harvested some beautiful rhubarb from our school vege gardens. These have been placed in our ‘Pātaka Kai’ at the top of the hill - please feel free to take some along with anything else from this.
Last year the school moved to using ‘SchoolDocs’ to create a website for our school policies and procedures. As part of this process, throughout each year, as we review our policies we will ask for feedback from staff, board and parent communities.
During term 2 of this year we are reviewing and asking for feedback on the following policies:
