Swansboro High School
Weekly Updates - October 3, 2021
It was a busy and exciting week at Swansboro High School. We hosted underclassmen pictures, our first Project Graduation parent meeting, a freshmen tailgate party and exciting learning opportunities are happening all over our campus.
Congratulations to our varsity soccer team for their wins this week over West Carteret and Richlands. JV and varsity volleyball brought home wins at White Oak. The Conference Golf Match at Morehead Country Club was held on Monday with the girls team placing 3rd and Emily Matthews as the first place medalist. Kudos to to Annabelle Henderson and Joelle Wagner for winning their doubles match against Croatan 9-7 on Tuesday! Both our Ladies and Men's Cross Country teams placed 2nd at their race on Wednesday and our Varsity football team started their conference games on Friday night with a win at Richlands.
Students participated in a Goal Setting homeroom lesson on Monday which parents can also view in this weekly newsletter. This was perfect timing as we round out the end of the 1st grading period tomorrow. Be sure to review grades and attendance on a weekly basis with your students. Parents and students are reminded that students are exempt from finals in any non-state tested course if they have an "A" average at the end of the semester. Students who are struggling should be signing up for extra assistance during Refresh or after-school tutoring.
This week is Homecoming Spirit Week and it promises to be filled with school spirit and lots of fun! Monday is pajama day, Tuesday is Tacky Tourist day, Wednesday is Pink Out, Thursday is Twin Day and Friday is color wars. Friday will include a PEP rally during 4th period and our Homecoming football game against Dixon High School. Saturday is the Mullet Day Parade and then our dance from 8:00-11:00 pm. Our current plan is to host the dance in the courtyard based on student preference to not be required to wear masks. The rain plan would require us to move indoors, which would result in a mask requirement. We will make a final decision regarding weather by Wednesday afternoon and share with students.
Athletics this week will include golf at Rock Creek on Monday, tennis at West Carteret, volleyball at home and soccer at Croatan on Tuesday. Our Cross Country team will participate at Fort Macon on Wednesday. Thursday will include tennis at Dixon, volleyball at West Carteret, soccer at home and JV football at Dixon. We will wrap up athletics this week on Friday with football at home against Dixon.
Please note the Remote Learning Schedule included in this weekly newsletter. This schedule was created to provide a schedule for staff and students in the event of a 1 day school closure due to inclement weather or an emergency such as the recent water line break. Please note that this is not related to COVID-19.
In closing, On November 6, 2021, Dr. Gross will complete the Tideland 24, an ultra marathon where you complete as many miles as possible in 24 hours at the Tideland Recreation Trail in Cedar Point. She is looking for sponsors per lap with a goal of raising money to refurbish the weight room at Swansboro High School. 100% of the funds raised will go to buy new weights for our student athletes. Her goal is 35-40 miles: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/DrGrossTideland24
