A Message From The Principals
Sandy Bermea - Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are winding down the 2021-2022 school year. What a year it has been for us all. The book fair was a huge success. It’s exciting to see our students’ love for books. Teacher appreciation is the week of May 3 followed by STAAR testing and a virtual career fair. We will have end of year awards in June. I will be sending out the details for this event. We will continue to follow the safety protocols to end the year. Thank you for your understanding.
It’s a Great Day to be a Panther!!!

Dear Potranco Families,
Here are a couple of reminders to ensure we finish the school year strong!
-Daily attendance is critical to ensure the teachers can capitalize on every minute we have left of the school year. Please ensure your student is on campus by 7:40 am. If your student is remote, ensure he/she fills out the attendance form daily and attends meetings/completes assignments daily.
-When dropping off students in the morning, drive through our main loop so we can ensure that students get to our building safely. Dropping off in the parking lot is a safety hazard as there is a constant flow of cars going in and out.
Thank you for your continuous support!

Hi Everyone!
We are coming to the end of the school year and we want to tell you how much we have enjoyed seeing our students in person and those that have joined us remotely for our classes.
We’re hoping to see everyone back on campus for the 2021-2022 school year!
With that being said, we are looking for volunteers for our Virtual Career Day! If you have an exciting job and you would like to share your knowledge and expertise with our students, please let us know. You will find the information you need on the attached form.
Thank you again for all of the support you have shown our students and our staff! We hope you have a wonderful summer!
Nurse's Office
Christie Neuman - Campus Nurse
Hello everyone,
I would like to remind you to continue to monitor your children for flu-like symptoms and if they are running a fever (100.0 or greater), vomiting, or have diarrhea please keep them home. They do need to be free of symptoms (fever, vomiting, diarrhea) without using medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
I am still in the process of performing all screenings so, if your child “fails”, I will send a referral letter home. If you receive a letter please follow up with your child’s pediatrician and return any pertinent documentation to me.
For the 4th and 5th grade girls, I will be performing a “girl talk”. I sent home letters stating this as well but if you have any reservations about them attending please email me at christie.langley-neuman@mvisd.org or their teacher and we will make arrangements for them to participate in another activity. Also, 5th-grade girls will be screened for scoliosis. I sent home letters for this as well. Again, please email me if you have any questions regarding either topic.
Lastly, if your child has any medical history or allergies requiring my services please make sure the health history form is filled out in Skyward. This is what I review when any student comes in. If they take medication at school please remember that all action plans or medication forms need to be updated every school year. These can be found on the MVISD website under the health services tab. I will also send out vaccine reminders if your child is not current on their immunizations; this will allow you the summer to get them up to date. Thank you.
Kind regards,
Christie Neuman, BSN, RN

10 Ways to Help Reluctant and Struggling Readers at Home
Determine the reason for the reluctance and struggling. Is it because the child can’t read, can read but chooses not to, or can read but can’t find anything interesting to read?
Remember to offer encouragement and positive praise. Make the encouragement and positive praise as genuine as possible.
Talk with your child about why he or she is no longer reading. The discussions may be revealing.
Remember the importance of the read-aloud. Returning to the read-aloud may help your child reconnect to reading.
Consider starting at the beginning of the reading process. Work on rhymes, blending, and letters.
Try to determine where the reading problems are. Work on vocabulary, comprehension, and/or fluency.
Is there a need for an eye exam?
Help your child find books that are most interesting.
Play some reading-related games like Scrabble, Scrabble Jr., and Upwords. Play other games and encourage your child to do all of the reading.
Ask your child to do some reading around the home. This includes reading recipes, writing the shopping lists, reading the directions to games, and looking up telephone numbers.
