A Message from Mrs. Fantaskey

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today is a great reminder that we are all where we are because someone helped us get there. Thank someone today who has given you their time, advice, thoughts, ideas, wisdom, encouragement, love, or inspiration. ~ Jimmy Casas

At this time of year, we are often asked to take a moment to pause, to reflect, to express gratitude, and to count our blessings. I hope this season allows you to do just that. Take the time to be present with your family, friends, and loved ones. I hope you are able to enjoy each other while making fond memories.

I certainly appreciate our Doyle community - students, teachers, and parents. You play such a vital role in what we do each and every day for our students. Thank you for your partnership in your child's educational experience, and for allowing me to be part of this very special community.

Wishing you all the best for a wonderful Thanksgiving!

With gratitude,

Kate Fantaskey

Spark November Newsletter

As parents, we have had to consider the impact of the last 18 month on our children. Steven Mintz, an historian at the University of Texas at Austin and author of “Huck’s Raft: A History of American Childhood,” believes that traumatic events can leave “invisible scars” that might shape the character of a generation. However, recent studies have indicated that this might take the form of being more focused about the future such as their place in the world and a stronger commitment to social issues. Although we may see a cautious approach from our children, they may also be energized and optimistic about what lies ahead. Students may find themselves exploring new career paths and ready to take action. This is where we may see the resiliency and empathy that many young people have when faced with struggles. Losing time in the past year can be seen as a negative but also as an opportunity to appreciate what is ahead. Take a moment and ask your daughter or son what the future looks like. Can they connect their thoughts to the career education activities they are working on this school year in Smart Futures and Naviance?

Please sign up for one (or two) slots below and drop off your homemade HOT soups or chilis in a crock pot to the Fab Lab between 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM on the day of the event.

All other dishes, drinks, desserts or other items can be dropped off or sent in with your student before 11:00 AM on December 9th.
