Central Elementary
Learning. Creating. Succeeding.
S.O.A.R!
Students have been issued S.O.A.R tickets from staff members when they are witnessed displaying positive behavior. Students turn those tickets into the office for weekly drawings. All tickets are then attached to Tuffy’s wing located in the hallway. The wing has just been completely covered so our school celebrated this accomplishment with an extra recess and popsicles. Pictured below are some of our staff members enjoying the extra recess with their students.
Dimes For Diapers
Central Elementary involvement with Dimes for Diapers campaign was a great success! Our student council spearheaded the initiative. We were able to raise $1,168.56. Every penny collected goes to purchase diapers for families who would otherwise struggle to provide something so basic for their children. Central Elementary was among the top ten collecting schools in the 2019 Dimes for Diapers campaign! Our school and nine others will be presented plaques to commemorate our role as a community champion for this year’s ABC12 Diaper Drive at ELGA Credit Union. A special thanks to Mrs. Cooke and Mrs. Duguid for leading the student council this year and specifically this event! #CentralPride
Bowling for Fun
The students from Mrs. Stark's class had a great time bowling. For some student's this was the first time that they bowled. They were joined by students from other schools in our district. It was a fun experience for everyone!
Greenfield Village Trip
The 5th grade class had a great time visiting Greenfield Village. The students went back in time for the day and experienced the many historical sights, artifacts and happenings of our country's past. It was a great day for students, staff and parents.
Running Club
Field Day Fun!
We had a fantastic Field Day this year! The weather cleared up in time for all the students to enjoy themselves. There were over 30 parent volunteers managing the various activities. A special thanks to our PALS for supplying all the popcicles, and to Mrs. Harwood and Mrs. Wright for organizing the event.
New School Store Sign
The student council has a new sign for their school store. All student council members contributed $2.00 of their own money to purchase the sign, with the remainder of the cost contributed by Mrs. Brea Zilisch. Thanks to all involved!
Art Fair
Our hallways and into our gym was filled with artwork created by our students. They worked hard on creating their pictures, paintings and sculptures. There were plenty of family, friends and students attending this year’s art fair. A special thanks to our volunteers that worked hard setting up and tearing down the art fair. There is a lot of work that goes into the event.
Music DJ
Every Friday during lunch the students get to listen to music. Students take turn as the "DJ" and spin their favorite songs. The lunchroom is much more festive and energetic on these days. Central has a lot of students that have exceptional voices as well.
Lighthouse Project
The lighthouse project began around 2008 with the idea to use application to showcase concepts learned in math, science, and social studies. Although it's called STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) today, the benefits of using hands-on learning remain the same. Students pick a lighthouse or U.S. maritime vessel to build. Math and engineering are the focus in building their model. Science is applied when they build the circuit to make it light. It's a project that we begin in December. Students have several months to plan, gather materials, and build it; and we use it as the final project turned in before their Mackinac field trip when we will pass by two lighthouses on the ferry ride to the island.
Mackinaw Trip
The 4th grade students, staff and parents spent a day at Mackinaw Island. Although the weather was on the cold side, everyone enjoyed their time on the island. There was plenty of fudge, taffy and other tasty treats enjoyed. Even the bus ride was fun. It was a great way to finish the 4th grade school year. Our students did a great job representing Central Elementary! Thanks to all the chaperons and staff members for making the day so successful and a special thanks to Mrs. Fitzgerald for organizing the trip!
