● Many teens do not report it because they are afraid to tell friends and family
● Lifelong repercussions are possible
● Many prevention strategies are proven to prevent or reduce dating violence
● Youth exposed to domestic violence are at greater risk for being both a victim and the perpetrator of dating violence
● Can take place in person or electronically-repetitious texts or posting sexual pictures of a partner online
● Teens often think their partner’s behaviors are normal, like teasing and name calling, but they can become abusive and develop into more serious forms of violence
● 21% of female high school students who dated, and 10% of males who dated, reported experiencing physical and/or sexual dating violence
● Among adults who have experienced physical violence, rape, and/or stalking by an intimate partner, 22% of females and 15% of males first experienced some form of teen dating violence between the ages of 11 and 17

Healthy relationships share characteristics that should be expected, such as:
● Mutual respect-value each other and understand boundaries
● Trust-give each other the benefit of the doubt
● Honesty-builds trust and strengthens the relationship
● Compromise-partners cannot always have their way; acknowledge differing points of view ● Individuality-keeping friends and interests that were present before the relationship began
● Good communication-speak honestly and openly to avoid miscommunication
● Anger control-talk it out
● Fighting fair-sticking to the subject and avoiding insults
● Problem solving-talk it through
● Understanding what each other might be feeling
● Self-confidence-when partners have confidence in themselves, it can help their relationships with others
● Be a role model
● Healthy sexual relationships-neither partner should feel pressured or forced to engage in any activity that is outside his or her comfort zone or without consent

Activities available: casino games, escape room(s), photo booth, inflatables, laser tag, DJ, movie streaming and more
Your help is needed!
Many many hours of planning have gone into this party, but we simply cannot pull it off safely without the help of abundantly more parents than we currently have working on it. There will be a need for setup on both Friday May 17 and early in the day Saturday May 18 (so that we can all be home in time to prepare our kids for prom and take pictures!) We will need many parents to supervise and oversee the different areas of the school where our various activities will take place. There will be 2 meetings to discuss these needs and allow parents to sign up for where they would prefer to help. PLEASE plan on attending one of these meetings so that you can sign up. The absolute fact of the matter is that in order for this party to run smoothly, including keeping our kids safe and out of dark corners, we need parents to commit to helping out.
Meeting dates/times: Thurs April 18, 7pm in BHS Lecture Hall
Mon May 6, 7pm in BHS Lecture Hall
As always, if you have ANY questions, concerns or anything else, you can email us at promafterdark2019@gmail.com.
Please take a moment to fill out the waiver, and I look forward to seeing you at one of the upcoming meetings.
