November 16th, 2018 #Work Hard, Poupard!
Dear Poupard Families,
We are having a tremendous school year. Our school has been busy working on building our foundation these past two months. Our staff collaborated and identified our building mission statement and core values which are available for your reading pleasure below.
Our Mission:
We strive to maximize our potential as learners, leaders, and global citizens.
Our Core Values:
- We believe in Mutual Respect
- We believe in Building Relationships
- We believe that Everyone Can Learn
- We believe in being Compassionate and Empathetic
- We believe in Recognizing and Valuing Diversity
- We believe in Hard Work and Effort
- We believe that Everyone has a Talent or Strength
Now our staff will be using this foundation to work towards advancing towards our school goals.
Students will continue to improve their reading proficiency and comprehension.
Students will improve their math skills and fact fluency.
Staff will create a positive learning environment for our learners.
We will build a school culture where students collaborate, are celebrated and have a sense of belonging.
We have identified key academic measures that we will be using to determine our effectiveness towards our goals and are working to solidify some goals for the social emotional components as well. I'm proud to say this process is helping us narrow our focus on teaching and learning while still emphasizing the importance of the individual well-being of our students. Exciting things are happening at Poupard!!
Nov 6th Election
I want to thank everyone that came out and voted on November 6th. It is outstanding that so many people in our community took the time to wait in our long lines and have their voices heard. Additionally, the Grosse Pointe Public Schools System Bond passed with a 54% YES vote. I'll continue to update you with details as we learn more about how this will impact Poupard in the near future.
As always, thank you for partnering with Poupard in your child's learning!

Notes from the Office Staff
BRR It's Cold...Preparing for Winter
Poupard students go outdoors for recess two times each day throughout the school year unless it is raining hard or the wind chill is below zero degrees Fahrenheit. Please be sure that your child leaves for school dressed properly for the weather. All students must have boots and snowpants to play on the wood chips, field and gaga ball court once the snow is on the ground—otherwise they must stay on the blacktop.
Students may build things (snowmen, fort, snow angels, etc) with the snow but are not permitted to throw snow or ice while on Poupard grounds. This will help all the students enjoy the joy of snow.
We also ask that you write your child’s name on his/her gloves, hats, boots, and
coat. Our Lost and Found quickly fills up!
Thank you!!!

Reflex Learning - Math Facts
Dear Poupard Families,
Poupard students have access to use Reflex at home which will support their success in Math!
ExploreLearning Reflex is an effective math fact fluency system that helps improve student confidence and readiness for challenging math concepts. Reflex has also improved student test scores in multiple studies:
- When 2nd-grade students used Reflex regularly, they achieved substantively higher growth on the NWEA MAP math test than their fellow students with little or no Reflex usage.
- A study of grade 2-5 students found that those who regularly used Reflex achieved substantially higher growth on the NWEA MAP test than their lower using classmates and peers nationwide.
Please contact your learners teacher if you need any assistance with their username and password.
Sincerely,
Poupard School Improvement Team
