Brooks Crossing & Deans School Newsletter - 6/1/19

Message from Joe Anzek, Interim Principal

We salute Sue Pazinko who has been a generous and versatile staff member in South Brunswick for many years. Her last day was Friday May 31. Congratulations, Sue! Have a wonderful retirement.

What a great Field Day! The weather matched the design and execution of events. The only thing keeping the kids from successfully completing their tasks was that they were laughing too hard. It was great, silly fun. Thank you to Ms. Woronicz and Mr. Dunn and your crack team of aides, teachers and parents.

We had an excellent turnout for kindergarten orientation this week. Many eager students brought their curious parents to the opportunity to get to know each other. Kudos to Ms. Franken the Deans school secretary for organizing the smooth running events of the day.

Come celebrate with the BC/DE school community at our end-of-the-school-year Carnival and Picnic! The PTO has planned this family-friendly event for all to enjoy! See this BC/DE CARNIVAL AND PICNIC Information and Presale Discount Ticket Order Form. This flyer was also sent home with students and has also been posted in our online Friday Folder for the past few weeks.

We have many EARLY RELEASE DAYS IN JUNE! DEANS Campus dismisses at 12:45p.m. and BC Main Campus dismisses at 12:50pm.

Will your child miss the last day of school?

If your child will miss the last day(s) of school, due to planned travel, you must notify the main office and your child's teacher as soon as possible. You will be responsible for returning school items and collecting your child's personal belongings before their last day. This includes; returning library books, paying lunch account balances due in full, collecting their artwork and personal items, checking the Lost and Found for missing items, etc. Parents must also contact the Health Office to pick up any medications that were given to the nurses. Medications will NOT be sent home with students.

Some specialists are only on site a day or two, so it is imperative you plan ahead and reach out to them to collect what you need.

ATTENTION 5TH GRADE PARENTS

Our 5th Grade Recognition will take place on Friday, June 21st at 9:00am. Details and invitations were sent home and reminders posted in our online Friday Folder. If you have not already done so, please RSVP as soon as possible, but no later than June 17th.

Are you moving?

If your child will not be attending Brooks Crossing next school year, please notify the main office and your child's teacher as soon as possible. This will help us plan class placement for next year, and it will aid us in getting your records transferred to your child's new school in a timely manner.

Student Placement for 2019-2020

Even though we have much to do and many tasks yet to complete for the current school year, we are beginning the initial planning steps for the 2019-2020 school year. As part of that process our teachers will be giving lots of thought to how our students are progressing academically, socially and emotionally, and determining which teachers might be a great fit and match for each child for next year. I believe every one of our teachers know the students in their class very well and will be able to make excellent decisions regarding placement for next year. However, parent input is always welcomed. Should you have any specific information that you believe your child’s teacher does not already have regarding the needs of your child, please feel free to email Assistant Principal Lisa Rogol with your thoughts issues or concerns at lisa.rogol@sbschools.org as soon as possible. Please understand that we can not make any promises regarding your child’s placement with a particular teacher, but all parents should feel free to reach out to Lisa Rogol if you are holding “need to know” information about your child and their class placement for next year.

**********************************************************************************************

Did you know the PTO has used funds we've raised to offset the parent's cost of many of our grade level field trips? Did you also know the PTO purchased four large 10 person picnic tables, one being American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant, for our BC students to enjoy outside learning opportunities and activities with their class? These are just two examples of the many ways we support BC/DE. Many do not realize that without our PTO, funding would not be available to help offset costs or purchase items that can enhance our children's learning experience!

Each membership we receive, and every dollar we raise, supports our BC/DE school community! There is much we do to support all students and staff, and memberships are a very important resource for us to meet these goals. Since family memberships are only $10 per family, please consider joining your PTO each school year and support our fundraising efforts. Your support and generosity is very much appreciated!

PTO memberships are always becoming accepted and we really hope you will show your support and join our PTO in the Fall when we start our membership drive again for the 2019-2020 school year.

If you would like more information on becoming a member or to volunteer, please email: BrooksCrossingPTO@gmail.com.

Be sure to read the Brooks Crossing/Deans Online Friday Folder weekly for upcoming PTO events! Go to https://bcde.sbschools.org/school_information/friday_folders.
