Elliott Express

9/2/2022

From the Principal's Desk

What a great start to the year as the students and staff focused on the character traits of Respect and Responsibility. We will celebrate students that have been recognized by their teachers during an Elevate Elliott Assembly this Thursday. In September we will be focusing on Organization and Perseverance. You can help your children make connections to our Elevate Elliott Character Traits by discussing examples of how you practice organization and perseverance in your work and home lives.

Have a great long weekend!

Teacher Professional Development

Teachers gained a great amount of knowledge at our full day Professional Development Day this week. Jim Pederson from C.L.A.S.S. (Connecting Learning Assures Successful Students) presented to the staff how best teaching practices are based on the understanding of the human brain. The teachers will implement what they have learned in the classroom daily.

Library

Mrs. Branagan is looking for parent volunteers to assist in shelving books. If you are interested in volunteering a few hours, please send her an email. rmbranagan@munster.us

Dismissal Changes

We realize sometimes things may change throughout a day. If you need to change your child's dismissal procedures, please call the office by 3:00. Please don't send your child's teacher an email. They might not be checking their email if they don't have a break in the afternoon. Calling the office will ensure your child is given the correct dismissal procedure.

Grandparents and Special Persons Day!

Monday, September 12, 2022

Help our students celebrate the grandparents and special people in their lives!

Paper invitations have been sent home and can be returned to the school through Tuesday, September 6.

Volunteer spots and donation options are now open, so sign up below for your chance to participate in this very special day!

Special Persons Day Book Fair

Here for one day only, the Scholastic Book Fair will join us for Elliott’s Grandparent’s and Special Persons Day event! Students can shop during their designated time with their grandparent or special person in the Elliott library.

Know ahead of time that your student will want to shop? Set up their e-wallet ahead of time to make shopping easy!

Book fair will also be open after school for a short time. Parents and guardians can come in to shop from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm in the library.

Walk to Stay Fit!

The Walk to Stay Fit is an annual PTO event that promotes healthy living. The students walk one mile around the school area with support from the school and police department. Each class will walk together with their teacher, and receive a healthy snack upon their return.

Permission slips and full information will be coming home after the Labor Day break, including opportunities to volunteer and walk with your student's classroom, so be on the lookout for those.

We will again fundraise through an online donation platform called FundHub. This year as a school, our goal is to raise $20,000! Each child will have a personalized link to their unique fundraising page that you can share electronically and easily via social media, text messaging and email. It's easy, fun and exciting to see the donations start rolling in! You can get started on your fundraising on our website, www.elliottelementarypto.com, or by clicking the button below!

And don't forget to pick up a Walk to Stay Fit t-shirt - orders will close on September 9, so get yours today!
