Problem Solving & Communication at SV
Our goal of effective communication includes assisting you with issues you may be having and getting answers to you quickly. Therefore, the Deer Valley Unified School District has established procedures to effectively and efficiently respond to questions, concerns and suggestions from parents and community members. This guide will assist parents and community members in finding the correct staff members to respond to your needs. DVUSD values solving problems efficiently at the lowest steps and the majority of questions and problems are answered best by school personnel. Therefore, board policy (KE-B) requires an attempt to resolve the issue at school level first. The Governing Board will make final resolution decisions if all listed steps are unsuccessful. The Deer Valley Unified School District is here to meet the needs of all students, staff, parents and community members.
Forms are available to report all incidents of bullying at dvusd.org (click on Safe Schools under the Parents & Students tab) and on your child’s school’s website.

Bullying vs. Peer Conflict
Adults must realize that not every unkind thing a child does constitutes bullying. For example: 4 Rev. 4/29/21 Being left out is not always bullying. It’s natural for kids to have a select group of friends. Although they should be kind towards everyone, it’s unrealistic to expect them to be close friends with every child they know, and be invited to every function or event. Experiencing conflict is not bullying. Learning to deal with conflict is a normal part of growing up. The key is for children to learn how to solve their problems peacefully and respectfully. Not playing fair is not bullying. Wanting a game to be played a certain way is not bullying. Children understand the concept of sharing, and should take turns being in charge of the game. When observing the unkind behaviors your child experiences, be sure to label them correctly. This will help you know how to handle the situation appropriately so that your child can learn and grow from it.

Scholastic Book Fair Closes on Tuesday
We've had a great week with our Book Fair in the media center. Literacy is a lifelong skill that we all need to excel in our careers. Research shows that students who read early and often at home for at least 20 minutes a day are far more likely to have academic success in high school and in their postsecondary endeavors. Be sure to look through our catalog and book fair page and let your child pick out some good books that get them excited about reading and literacy. If they need help with a title or book selection they can always speak with their teacher or Mrs. O in the media center.
Updates from our Office
If you are calling into the attendance line and your student is not sick, please be sure you specify that they are well and/or taking a personal day. Otherwise when a student is called in ill, we need to have a negative Covid test before they can return to campus, when presenting a covid like symptom.
Next Friday is a Full Day of School!
Our PBIS Store has been slammed with our Vipers spending their points for Being good citizens. We are running low on prizes and would welcome any donations, especially; $5 gift cards (Target, Walmart, Starbucks, etc...) and Mystery Prize Box items. These can be any trinket from goodie bag favors to small items you have around the house. Students big and small love to earn a chance to pick a prize out of the Mystery Boxes!
