Ms. Lindsay's Letter

Week of Febuary 10th

Hi Homeroom Kiddos and Families!!!

Week two of February!

Are you watching some of the Olympics? I am loving it! I have been able to see some snowboarding, skiing, women's hockey and ice skating so far. What have you been watching? How is your country doing? Cheer them on! Cheer all these amazing athletes on!

So far the blackboard announcement that went out seems to be downloading more quickly than it mentioned! It took me only about 3 minutes as far as I can tell so far. I entered that classroom and in the process of entering it I believe it automatically did the download of the update. We will see over the next few days. If you experience any new issues, feel free to let me know.

Also this week is Random Acts of Kindness week! I love the ideas that are shared below by the MAkE AN iMPACT club. Pick out one or two of your favorites and try it! See how fun it is!

Enjoy your week. Remember, I am here if questions arise.

Sending you a smile and a high five!
Ms. Lindsay

Random Acts Of Kindness

K12 iCademy’s MAkE AN iMPACT club invites YOU to make an impact on our school and on your community by demonstrating kindness to others. We have set aside a week to encourage kindness, but we ask that you not be limited by our suggestions; go above and beyond to show kindness to others in creative ways everyday! (You can also find more ideas at: http://www.randomactsofkindness.org/)

Thank you for caring about our school and our world. THANK YOU for joining us in spreading love and kindness. We appreciate you!

How Can I Participate? GREAT question! Please use this list to guide your focus. You may choose to do one item each day or you may have completely different ideas. Remember that “random” does not mean unintentional…it simply means taking opportunities as they arise to show kindness to others. Be intentional about showing kindness to others.  Here are some ideas for a daily focus in case a plan helps you:

( __) Say Something Nice Day! –using Skype (either in the status or as an actual message), or through some other form of communication(written or face to face), use your words to show kindness to someone. ( __) Kindness In Action Day! -go out and show kindness to family, friends, neighbors, etc. You can do something as simple as hold the door for someone!!!( __) See the need Day!- make it a point to pay attention to the people around you. If they need a helping hand, volunteer immediately. If they seem sad, offer a smile or a small gift. Show your care and interest for someone else by listening to them and truly investing your time and energy into them. ( __) Share Your Smile Day!-smile at someone- it can make a big difference in someone’s life or day! ( __) Teacher appreciation Day!-be on the look-out this week for ways to encourage your teacher. Even those who help and guide you need a dose of encouragement from time to time. Consider sending a note, telling others how the teacher has helped you, or stopping by study hall just to express your thankfulness for all you’re learning from him/her. ( __) Encourage a Peer Day!- We all need encouragement! Take time to encourage a peer who may be going through a difficult time. Give sincere compliments to others. ( __) Drive-thru Difference and Sweeten Notes Day!- Choose to pay for the person behind you when you are going through the drive thru lane, or attach candy to a note of encouragement and give it to someone. These little random acts of kindness can make someone’s day. ( __) Give Your Gifts Day!- Use the talents you have to encourage others. If you play an instrument, volunteer to play in a hospital or nursing home. If you are a good cook, bake some treats for a neighbor. The opportunities are as endless as the talents. 

Let us hear from you! If you participate in RAK week for 2014, please send us a short email (k12makeanimpact@gmail.com) and let us know about your experience. If you’re willing to share what you did (or what someone did for you that impacted you), we would love to know about it. Be sure to also include your name, grade level (if you’re a student), or subject area (if you’re a teacher).

Some Feedback from the Session:

From an LC:

Thanks for inviting me to the coach to coach session. It was great to hear from other coaches. When you hear them, you realize you are not alone and get so many new ideas.

I cannot explain how nice I felt after the session. There was a togetherness I experienced with the iCademy teachers and other LC's for the first time. At a school there is a group you can bank on. But home-schooling isolates you immensely, especially in India as very few people do it.
