BEACON NEWS
Beacon Elementary School: August 2022
Principal's Message
Dear Beacon Elementary Families,
On behalf of the staff at Beacon, I am happy to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education.
As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
- Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience,
- Completes all homework assignments given by teachers,
- Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills,
- Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life,
- Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject and
- Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school.
Communication. As educators, we recognize that a whole new generation of social media and mobile-savvy parents are entering the school system and our goal at Beacon is to use technology to connect effectively and efficiently with our families. Therefore, please use our website, www.monteschools.org, and our monthly digital newsletter (published the first Friday of every month) to find everything from calendar events, school supplies, weekly updates and so much more. I would also encourage you to check your email daily for updates, messages from teachers, or Google Classroom alerts.
New this year. We are excited to add the pre-kindergarten (pre-k) program to Beacon. This will be a great opportunity for our young children to build a strong foundation for their physical, mental, emotional, and social development that prepare them for lifelong learning.
The amazing Beacon staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to a great school year with you.
In partnership,
Mrs. Barbara Page, Principal
Annual Student Information Update
PLEASE NOTE: An email was sent August 12 from ZB Tech Support requesting our K-2 parents to "setup your account." In doing so, this inadvertently revealed your child's teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. While typically parents update their child's information in Skyward before their teacher is revealed, this email has allowed parents to bypass a critical step in our start up process. Therefore, we ask that parents PLEASE update your information in Skyward before August 19. Updated information ensures our office staff and teachers can connect effectively and efficiently with our families.
-----------------------------------
An annual information update must be completed for all students currently enrolled in the Montesano School District. To update your student's information, log in to Skyward Family Access and click on “Annual Student Information Update” beginning August 15, 2022. Information must be updated by August 19, 2022. The link to Skyward Family Access is located on the Montesano School District website at www.monteschools.org.
You will be able to see your child’s class placement in Skyward under "Schedule" once the information update is complete.
If you do not have access to a computer, you may access one at Timberland Regional Library or at the Beacon office by appointment beginning August 22. Skyward access is also available via smart phone, although online forms may not display properly via the Skyward app on a mobile device. If you need Skyward assistance, please email
beaconskyward@monteschools.org.
You may also contact the Beacon Elementary office at (360) 249-4528 when the office opens on August 22, 2022.
Pre-K & Kindergarten Family Connection Meetings
Welcome to pre-k and kindergarten at Beacon Elementary School! The school year begins with parents and students meeting with the pre-k/kindergarten teachers. This family connection meeting provides an opportunity to individually discuss each child’s strengths and needs so that families and teachers can work together to help children be successful in school.
Family connection meetings will be held August 31 - September 2. Pre-k and kindergarten students will not attend regular class on these days. The first regular day of school for pre-k and kindergarten students is Tuesday, September 6.
Families will receive an email with details about scheduling a family connection meeting for their child soon.
*Please note that details regarding pre-k are not yet finalized. This information will be sent in a separate email to pre-k families once the details have been determined.
