The Manning Weekly Newsletter

August 17, 2020

OUR VISION

The vision of The Manning School of Academics and Arts is to challenge all students to work to their highest potential and encourage student responsibility as they develop intellectually, socially, physically, emotionally and creatively.

Manning Community,

I wanted to start this week's newsletter by thanking our staff and families for being so supportive. We have received numerous emails from our parents and teachers, thanking the Manning staff for our work to open up school during these very odd times! So thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. We can't wait to welcome your students back to school!

Please know that we will have schedules out to your student(s) this Friday and further communication on Friday about what our students can expect when they begin school in a remote learning model this upcoming Monday, August 24th! Also, we will be sharing more information regarding our orientation schedule (August 31st-Sept. 4th) Please note that our Manning town hall meeting dates/times have changed (see below for the Zoom links to these meetings).

I hope to see each and everyone of you then!

Best,

Christian

Monday, August 31 - 7am-12noon - ONLINE ONLY STUDENTS DRIVE-THRU MATERIAL PICKUP & SCHOOL PICTURES

We are busy collaborating and gathering materials for your students. Please join us for a contact-less event to pickup your student's materials for the semester. This will include any math workbooks, possible novels (if needed for their classes), science stuff, etc. This will also include the 19-20 yearbook if you ordered one. If you left anything in your locker last spring, this is also when you will pick this up.

All hybrid students from Group A (last names A-K) will attend school for an in-person orientation and material pickup. If you left anything in your locker last spring, this is also when you will pick this up. NUTS & BOLTS

SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS

Please see these links to find the school supply lists. We recommend only gathering the minimum supplies needed at this time, as schedules are still being solidified and we do not want you to be purchasing things you may or may not need. We hope to have schedules out by the end of the week. Thank you for your continued patience and flexibility as we navigate this unprecedented time.
We forgot to mention on our supply list, but please send your kids to school with a pair of headphones. It's important to have headphones to go along with their Chromebooks, so our students can watch instructional videos and engage in activities without disrupting their neighbor. They can be little ear buds or huge BOSE headphones or anywhere in between - it doesn't matter to us!

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Please know we want the best possible educational experience for your student as possible, and that means giving them the classes and teachers that they want.

However, please know we are working on keeping the safety of your students at the top of the list. So, that may mean your student doesn't get the exact schedule they want or the teacher they had in mind. While we sympathize with your desires and preferences, this is an unprecedented year and we are doing everything we can to group students in cohorts that limits their exposure to large groups of students. Keeping this in mind, we may have to make adjustments to your student's schedule as it currently stands.

We also aren't accepting schedule requests at this time, until we have things solidified for cohort groups, etc. Schedule change requests after this point may be accepted, but not guaranteed. We appreciate your patience, grace and understanding with us during this time.

STUDENT FEES

With schedules being up in the air, so are student fees. Our financial office is working to ensure you are only charged for the fees you need and nothing that doesn't belong. We will put fees up as soon as schedules are set, hopefully within the week.

LOCKERS

THERE WILL BE NO LOCKER USAGE THIS SEMESTER. Please send your student with a backpack to carry their stuff from class to class.

PE UPDATE

If your student has PE, they will NOT be dressing out for this first semester. Please wear PE appropriate clothing on the days you have PE.

LAST DAY TO CHANGE HYBRID GROUPINGS - THURSDAY 8/20

If you are in need of a change from one hybrid grouping to the other for any of the following reasons, you must submit your request to Melaine Heesacker by this Thursday 8/21. melaine.heesacker@jeffco.k12.co.us

In order to change from one group to the other, one of these circumstances must apply:

  • your family is carpooling with another family in the other half of the alphabet
  • you have a child care issue that is negatively impacted by the assigned days for your last name alpha group
  • your employment is negatively impacted by the days your student needs to be in the building

I WANT TO SWITCH FROM HYBRID TO REMOTE OR VISA VERSA. HOW AND WHEN CAN I DO THAT?

There are 3 windows of time this can happen if you have a change of heart your your circumstances have changed.

  1. The current adjustment window is open until Friday, September 4, 2020
  2. Adjustments will be allowed at Quarter, mid-October
  3. Adjustments will be allowed at Semester, End of December

THE SEL WELL...A PLACE TO FILL UP YOUR BUCKET

Hello! This section of the weekly bulletin is brought to you by the letters S, E, and L! My name is Kari Gray and I am Manning’s Social Emotional Learning Specialist (SEL). Here you will find weekly ideas, challenges, and updates. As your SEL I aim to partner with you for the benefit of our mental wellness and academic achievements. You can reach me through email: Kari.Gray@jeffco.k12.co.us; or my office: ext 65514 and voicemail (303) 982-1514, and my social media is @sel_by_gray on instagram.

This week’s SEL idea: Take a mindful walk. Give yourself at least 2-5 minutes. You can do this alone or with others. Begin walking at a natural pace, count your steps up to 10, once you reach 10 start back at 1. If you lose count, that’s ok, just begin at the last number you remember. If thoughts or feelings interrupt, name it to yourself, and return to counting. You can expand this to include paying attention to the sensation of walking, noticing the lifting and lowering of your foot; or use this time to focus your attention on a particular sensation.

Perhaps at the end of your walk take a selfie, tag Manning and myself, and share your experience.

STICKY STUFF

YOU CAN FIND THIS SAME INFORMATION AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH AND EVERY NEWSLETTER, SO YOU ALWAYS KNOW WHERE TO FIND IT!
