Travel Info for Heartspace Events
If you need any special accommodations at the workshop itself, please contact me personally. ~ Bruce
Hotels: Quality Inn & Suites (814) 944-9661: This hotel is definitely most convenient - a very easy one block walk to/from Heartspace (you do go through parking lots, but do not have to cross any streets), where we have our workshops.
There are other hotels cheaper, like Super 8 (814) 942-5350 (which is close & folks report is perfectly adequate).
Consider a cabin at nearby Canoe Creek State Park.
Directions & Parking
Directions: see map As you approach 217 Union Ave., look for "Simington Plaza II" sign at a two story brick commercial building. It is located between Dunkle Services and Medcare Express, and across street from Town & Country Real Estate and Guy Landolfi, CPA. Enter building from front, and take stairs or elevator to second floor.
**Parking: Please avoid parking along the left side of our building (as you face building from road). Use the rear, right side and front parking spaces to help us cooperate with neighboring business owners. Thanks in advance for this small favor. If you wish to go the extra mile, I request that some people park on the side street across Union Ave. and walk the block or half block to the building. Be very careful crossing Union Ave. as you walk to the building, there can be lots of traffic at times. This would relieve some parking pressure from our small and busy lot. Any ride-sharing can also help.
Creature Comfort: Temperatures will vary in the meeting rooms. Please bring layers for warm through cool. We will have coffee, tea (and hot water) along with a variety of delicious snacks available all day.
Right below us on the first floor is The Athenian Cafe. Highly recommended. Authentic Greek cuisine, and other things. I eat here two or three times a week. Lunch or dinner.
Jaidee Thai - an amazingly good Thai restaurant with cozy atmosphere. About 10 minutes away. Lunch or dinner.
D'Lites Cafe - wonderfully delightful lunch fare sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps, etc. About 5 minutes away. Breakfast too!
El Campesino, one block away, nice atmosphere, bar, good Mexican food. Lunch or dinner.
For dinner, more upscale, finer dining:
Tavern 27, Bill Sell's Bold, The Allegro, Finelli's Italian Villa, The Phoenix. These are all within 10 minutes drive. All have a bar.
Moderately priced dinner spots:
Marzoni's, US Hotel, Lena's Cafe, Casa Valadez, Tim's American Cafe, Champs, The Knickerbocker
For Family Style dinner, breakfast: The Dream - about 15 minutes drive.
Airport: Altoona/Martinsburg Airport is about 25 minutes away and easily the closest. Please be certain to pre-arrange taxi or car rental to save time. Very small airport. Next nearest; State College (50 min.) Pittsburgh, and DC or Baltimore airports are about 3 hours away.
Taxi: Blue & White (814) 941-2711, Yellow Cab (814) 944-6105 about $30 one way from airport.
Car Rental: Hertz (814) 944-3591, Enterprise (814) 942-7000
