Message from Mr. Hanzeli
Hello Elger Bay Families!
I hope that February finds you all doing well. I have recently had a few sunrise drives onto Camano that remind me just how special a place we have for school and home. It also tells me the days are quickly getting longer and longer. Literally some light at the end of our tunnel :-) Here are a few key notes for the coming weeks.
PROGRESS REPORTS
I would like to take a quick moment and talk to you about the mid year progress reports you will be receiving the week of February 15. You can expect these via KidMail. AA Hybrid progress reports will go home on February 16. BB Hybrid progress reports will go home on February 18. For distance learners, progress reports will be delivered by the USMail.
Take a close look at the progress report. It is very possible that the teacher is unable to give you a precise score. If that is the case, take a look at the comments to see why. In many cases, it may be that the student has not been able to participate enough or that attendance has been erratic. Given the nature of our current circumstances, staff are doing the best to communicate clearly and fairly where your child is at this moment in time. If you have any questions, be sure to contact your teacher via Email.
Wednesday, February 10 "Office Hours"
The weekly one hour office hours that classroom teachers keep is CANCELLED for February 10 to allow for a bit more time to complete progress reports. Normal office hours for classroom teachers will resume February 10.
Mid Winter Break Coming Up
Just a quick reminder that Friday, February 12, through Monday, February 15, is mid winter break for students and staff. Schedules will resume on Tuesday, February 16.
Meal Pick Adjustment for Mid Winter Break
For our families that sign up for meal delivery, there will be a special meal pickup plan. Here is the message from Food Service:
Due to Mid-Winter Break, the 7-day meal pick-up day will be changed NEXT WEEK.
Meal pick-up will take place WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10TH FROM 4:30 TO 6:30 at each of the elementary schools.
Families will be notified via the order form, an automatic form email receipt, and a school messenger notification.
REPEATED
HEADPHONES in preparation for MAP: Please try to see if your child has or can get an inexpensive pair of headphones that plug into their chromebook for the MAP assessment. We have some pairs of headphones to loan, but not enough for everyone and many families prefer to have their child use one of their own.
Snow Day Schedule (below...just in case :-)
Just a reminder, especially during these coming winter weeks, to hang onto the EBE Snow Day(s) and Distance Learning Schedule. It includes the master schedule and all of the meet codes for class session. I have included it below for your future reference.

SCSD Friday Family Message, 2.5.21 (Repeat)
It has been another busy week. Our 4th and 5th grade students returned to in-person learning.
Plans are in place for returning middle school students and some high school students to in-person learning beginning February 22, provided the metrics remain within the window outlined in the Department of Health Return to School guidelines.
Dr. Jean Shumate, Superintendent, submitted her letter of retirement to the school board Tuesday evening after 20 years of service to the Stanwood-Camano School District and 44 years in public education. The board’s message is below:
The Stanwood-Camano School Board has received notice that Superintendent Jean Shumate plans to retire at the end of this school year. Dr. Shumate leaves behind a 20-year legacy of hard work and dedication to our district and we will be forever grateful for all that she has accomplished. Finding and hiring a new superintendent is one of the most important processes a school board undertakes for their district. We plan to work through these steps in an open and transparent way and look forward to collaborating with our community. More information will follow as soon as it is available.
Dr. Shumate’s letter of retirement will be available on the district’s website next week.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for its continued support of our schools and students.
Please take care and stay healthy.
