Welcome back! :)
Wow! What a lot of snow! This has been our first full week in quite some time, so I thought I would welcome you back to our classroom! I would also like to welcome Ms. Tretter to our classroom. Ms. Tretter is a student teacher from Northern Kentucky University. She will be in our classroom until around the end of February. She is doing a GREAT job of working with our class!
Spaghetti Dinner
On Tuesday, February 11th, the PTO will be holding the annual Spaghetti Dinner. If you have never made it to this event, you are really missing out! For a small price, you will receive a full dinner with salad and bread sticks, along with a drink and dessert. More information about pricing will be coming home soon from the office.
Along with the fabulous meal, the PTO also holds a silent auction. Each classroom can donate a basket to raise money for class supplies. This year, for our classroom basket, we will be doing an Ice Cream Basket. I will need you, our class families, to donate items for the basket. The following is a list of ideas, although you may have more ideas of what to contribute for our basket:

This year, for our classroom basket, we will be doing an Ice Cream Basket. I will need you, our class families, to donate items for the basket. The following is a list of ideas, although you may have more ideas of what to contribute for our basket:
- sprinkles (all kinds)
- chocolate, strawberry, caramel syrup
- spoons
- bowls
- malt/shake mix
- glasses for shakes/floats
- ice cream cones
- toppings
- cherries
I am also going to try to get some local businesses to donate a couple of gift cards for ice cream for the basket. I hope you will all contribute to make our basket the BEST at the auction. All items are due to me by Monday, February 10th so I can put the items together. Thanks so much in advance for your help with this!
Valentine's Day Party
On Friday, February 14th, our class will have a Valentine's Day party! I have sent home a letter about this in your child's folder this week. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.
Report Cards
Last Friday, report cards for the second term were sent home. I have only received a few of the envelopes back and signed. If you have not seen your child's report card, I need to know this ASAP so we can get you another copy. If you did receive your child's report card and you have not done so already, please sign and return the envelope by next Tuesday.
In Class...
Reading: We have been working on plot, and will begin to work on summarizing a fiction text.
Math: We are working on algebraic ideas. We are working on generating patterns and writing the terms as ordered pairs, and we will also graph these ordered pairs. Our test over this unit will be next week. Look for a study guide to come home soon.
Social Studies: We are studying Colonial life. We are learning about life in cities, towns, and farms, and also every day life.
Writing: We will begin working on a research project about an historical figure. Students will get some time in class to research, however, they will also need to do some research on their own at home or their local library.
