Important Information for You!
Wishing you a Very Merry Christmas and a Well Deserved Holiday Break
I want to wish each and every one of you a Very Merry Christmas, Restful Holiday Break, and a Joyous New Year! May the upcoming time off give find you with loved ones enjoying all that the magic of the holidays brings!
Please don't forget to join the office staff Wednesday, December 21st for a special staff Christmas luncheon. We will be preparing a potato bar with all the fixings! We hope you will plan to eat with us and enjoy the company of your colleagues.
Behavior and the Importance of Routines this Week
You don't need me to tell you that the excitement of this last week before the Christmas/Winter Break will be very high. Thank you, in advance, for all you will do to guide our kiddos through the routines and events of this four day week. Remember to balance the academic demands with a healthy dose of love and caring. During the times outside of 'special' activities, it will be important to keep the daily schedule as consistent as possible for our little ones. This will help them maintain the behavior expectations you have worked to set up. This is not the time to be 'threatening' lost parties, privileges, or Santa; things that you don't plan to follow through on or don't control. If there is cause for a child to lose part of their party or a special event, please talk to me about it first. Instead, focus on the channeling that excitement into creating a fun, magical learning environment. Let's send our kids home on Thursday with feelings that will have them excited to be back after the New Year.
Classroom Christmas Parties
Please remember that all classroom party volunteers must be on a child's emergency contacts. If a parent/volunteer choose to take their child home at the end of the party, you must ensure that they sign their child out in the classroom with the sign out sheets provided by the office. Please make sure that you turn in the sign out sheet for your classroom at the end of the day prior to you leaving. Have fun and enjoy this special time with your kids and their parents.
Food for Thought
Last week at our staff meeting I shared with you a very small part of insights I have had the opportunity to hear Dr. Adolph Brown talk about...the story of the two backpacks. While the story of the two backpacks isn't included, below you will find a video clip of a presentation that Dr. Brown did at the NEA Conference, the video is just under 40 minutes but I hope that you will take the time to watch it over the Christmas holiday. You will hear him talk about 'balcony and basement people', having room for 'all kids' in 'your wheelbarrow', stories from his own life and education, his children, and lots of 'real talk'. The volume is a bit wonky, but I promise if you watch it you will be inspired and reflect on your education, yourself, and your students and finish feeling empowered. Enjoy!
Information should be coming soon from Eric Chorley regarding what needs to be down in regards to the upcoming holidays and what staff needs to do to help save energy. Please be sure to be on the lookout for it...but remember that the holiday shut down, at a minimum, means that all electronics (lamps, tape/CD players, laptops, etc.) should be unplugged. The only things that should remain plugged in are your desktop computers and the ceiling mounted projectors. Additionally, we will be unplugging and opening the refrigerators in the staff lounge. If you have things in the refrigerator, please take it home or take it to Kay and ask if she can store it for you. At 4:00 p.m. all items left in the refrigerator or freezer will be thrown away including containers and salad dressings...anything you can do to help out is greatly appreciated.
If you are interested in working, please apply now at the link below for the February Intersession.
Remember there are positions for everyone!
