Message from College Counselor:
Greetings,
I am Serdar Ozguven, College Counselor, and Engagement Support Coordinator at HSE Austin. I want to share our first counselor newsletter of the year. You will find essential information, announcements, and updates on this issue. I will publish it biweekly on Fridays and keep you posted on critical timelines.
I have a unique passion and enthusiasm for teaching, counseling, and coordinating in HSE, and it is my honor to serve this community as a college counselor. This is my 16th year in education and 11th year in HPS System. I will work very hard to ensure to give the best college-going experience for our students, parents, and community. Upcoming Events
Texas A&M College Trip (12th Grade)
HARMONY SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE-AUSTIN arranged an activity for 12th-grade students. A campus visit is their opportunity to get a firsthand view of a college and also give you the chance to talk to students. We will depart from the school at 07:00 am and return at around 03:15 PM. The permission slip copies are available in the college counselor's office 131.
The permission slip needs to be returned by 9/24/2019
Note: Please return the permission slip on time.
(After the deadline, only a limited number of students will be accepted due to the bus availability and participants will be selected on a first come first serve basis.)
Recommended Packing List:
• Comfortable Shoes (We are going to walk a lot!) & Water bottle.
• Any medication you may need.
• If you have allergies that require potential use of an epi-pen, please bring one.
Student Expectations:
(1.) The purpose of the campus visit to A&M University is to get information about the college for students and to see campus life in higher education.
(2.) It is expected that our visiting students be respectful of each other, our staff, all presenters, A&M Students, and all facilities and property of Texas A&M University at all times.
(3.) Students must remain with the assigned group at all times.

Please Note This Date on Your Calendar!
Dear 9-11th Grade Students and Parents,
We are going to have PSAT/NMSQT(The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test ) on Wednesday, October 16th. Please note this date on your calendar! Significantly, students do not miss this day of school.

This resource will answer all of the student's questions about the test, and also has a practice test that allows previewing and become familiar with the test for students.

High School Aerospace Scholars
NASA wants today’s students to become the engineers, scientists, researchers and innovators of tomorrow. High School Aerospace Scholars offers a one-of-a-kind experience for Texas high school students to explore the possibilities of a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related major or career. The adventure starts this fall with an online course and culminates - for students who earn the opportunity - with an onsite summer experience at NASA's Johnson Space Center.
Eligibility:
- U.S. citizen
- Texas high school junior
- Committed to a one-year relationship with NASA
- Internet access (from home, school or public library)
Watch these videos:
During the school year you'll have the opportunity to participate in:
- Interactive lessons on NASA activities related to space exploration, earth science, technology and aeronautics
- Design challenges such as 3D drawing, video creation, interactive poster design
- Virtual chats with NASA engineers and scientists
Selected students will be invited to NASA for a week-long residential summer experience of:
- Team projects and briefings directed by NASA engineers and scientists
- Hands-on design challenge and engineering activities to plan a mission to Mars
- Tours of NASA facilities
