Please mark you calendars for Tuesday, March 26th. That is the day of our Marketplace event. Please ask your students about what product they are creating!
We have an exciting presentation for our students in two weeks. Boomer from the Pacers will be visiting our school on February 26th. He visited a few years back and students enjoyed his visit!
A reminder that if you have Kindergarten students enrolling for the 2019-20 school year, please enroll your child now so that we can properly plan for next year. See our website for more information.
Have a wonderful two weeks! Thank you for sharing your beautiful children with us!

Global Studies - Spanish
Dear Parents and Guardians,
What a fun few months it has been in Global Studies! I can’t believe how fast the time flew by! I have greatly enjoyed working with your children and will miss them!
We have been singing, dancing, creating and playing while learning the Spanish language.
We summed up the Spanish rotation with talking about traditional food and meals in Costa Rica. We learned about plantains and sampled roasted plantain chips. The chips were quite popular, and many students have inquired about where to buy them so they could have them at home! The chips were from the grocery store, Trader Joes, in Indianapolis.
I am so impressed with all that the students have accomplished during our time together. Their enthusiasm and excitement to learn is an inspiration to all!
Best wishes,
Stacey Zimmerman
Kids Heart Challenge (formerly Jump Rope for Heart)
We are so proud to partner with the American Heart Association and have our school participate in the Kids Heart Challenge event this year, formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart.
We need your help to make this event a success. You can help by going online at heart.org/kidsheartchallenge ,or by downloading the free Kids Heart Challenge mobile app, to choose a heart healthy challenge and register.
Geist Elementary has been selected to pilot an incentive: If we can get 435 of our students to Register on-line and take the Challenge, we will be awarded $500 in PE equipment!
Our goal is to have 100% of our students/faculty take their heart healthy challenge online to do a good deed, drink more water, or exercise more. When the student takes their challenge, they will become a Heart Hero!
Thank you for your life-saving help!
Global Studies 3rd Session - Cultures Around the World
My name is Suzanne Chadwell and this is my second year teaching in Hamilton Southeastern School District. In the past, I have taught First Grade, Transitional Kindergarten, Discovery at HSE and now Global Studies. My portion of Global Studies is an introduction to cultures/traditions from around the world. I have enjoyed this position immensely so far! We will have 12 weeks of learning about different countries throughout the world. We will learn about foods, lifestyles, schools, traditions, holidays and so much more!
Throughout our 12 weeks I will use a lot of children’s literature, video clips, music, games, discussions and other activities to help us explore/experience the world beyond what we see daily. Students are encouraged to add information during each class that can add to our learning and are invited to bring in artifacts they may have from the locations we are studying! Please keep an eye out for updates and happenings in Global Studies every couple of weeks in the Geist Gazette. It is going to be a fun and interesting 12 weeks!
Thank You,
Suzanne Chadwell
