Monday Morning Bearcub Brief
Volume LXXIII--10 September 2018
"Every CUB stepping up, reaching out, moving forward!"
Kleb Kudos
Hey Bearcub family! Thanks to everyone last week for an amazing open house! Parents, it was fantastic to see you and get a chance to share just a part of the great things happening at Kleb Intermediate. Teachers, thank you so much for taking your evening to let our community know about the teaching and learning that happens every day here at Kleb.
Cubs of the Week
6th Grade - Angad Dhingra
7th Grade - Elizabeth Edmonson
8th Grade - Alex Dore
Huggins Highlights
Staff, just a reminder that we all need to give out just 11 Cub Cards a day to hit our goal of 14,000 Cub Cards earned by our Bearcubs by the end of September! Remember that the important thing is that our kids understand why they are getting the cards...so feel free to sign ahead of time, tell students "I'm giving you this for [kindness, leadership, etc.] because you [what they did right]" and then have them fill out on their own. Just one more way we can make reinforcing the positive easier!
Remember that this Friday, the 21st, is our September Faculty Meeting where we will learn together about the Profile of a Leader and talk about upcoming events in early October.
Finally, don't forget that Friday, 9/28 is the last day for grades in the second progress reporting period. The second progress report is also an eligibility report (UIL is still set up based on six weeks marking periods) so please make sure that grades accurately reflect student progress as we get to the end of next week.
Parents, you will be given access to the Schoology Parent Portal for your Bearcubs beginning Friday, September 28, 2018. Schoology is our Learning Management System that allows students to collaborate, communicate, and engage in learning through their teachers’ instruction. Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online while providing a safe forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects. This portal will give you access into your student(s) classes, assignments, and school/class announcements.
This is NOT the official gradebook so please continue to use Skyward Family Access to view your student's grades.
You will receive an email from Schoology on September 28th with your login information. Please pay close attention for this email in your inbox. If you do not receive an email, please contact schoology@kleinisd.net.
You can learn more on how to navigate and use Schoology, by accessing our Family Onboarding website at kisd.us/ParentSchoology. If you need assistance, please email schoology@kleinisd.net. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m - 4 p.m. We are excited to provide parents an opportunity to connect to their student’s blended learning environment.
Teacher of the Week
Coach Gilliam
I'm nominating Coach Gilliam for kindness because he is constantly inspiring his students to be better people. He is kind, genuine, and an excellent role model.
From the PTO President
Hi parents! In case you missed it, we held a ‘virtual PTO meeting’ at Open House last week – but we did have some technical difficulties, so many of you did not get a chance to see it. Here are the highlights:
- New this year: register to follow our account on Remind so you can stay updated on events around school and ways to be involved: text @klebpt to 81010
- Please join the PTO! Your $10 membership ($5 for faculty/staff) makes a BIG difference in our ability to fund our giving projects, AND it gives us the ability to include you on email votes to help us decide on fundraisers and how we will use our money to best benefit the school and students. Help us hear your voice by joining PTO – envelopes are in the front office, or check your kiddo’s backpack to see if one is swimming around in there from the second week of school ;) Remember, PTO Membership doesn’t come with any expectations from you, aside from replying to a vote. Of course we’re happy to have you as a volunteer if you’re willing and able, but it isn’t a requirement for membership.
- Speaking of voting, we expect to send out our first general vote by email to PTO members before the end of the month. We will need to confirm our annual budget and our plan for this year’s giving project – make sure you’re on the list!
- Our first event is coming up October 12 – it’s Bearcub Bash time! We will be selling wristbands at lunches the week of Oct 9-12 – they will be $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Wristbands will give your student entrance & access to all of the activities, as well as “Bash Cash” that they can use to get food, drinks, and snacks inside. This event is our first fundraiser and we need people to help with the planning committee as well as with decorations and chaperoning/working game stations the night of the event – PLEASE let us know if you can pitch in!
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions/suggestions or if you would like to get involved/volunteer. You can drop notes in the blue mailbox in the front office, or message me through Remind. Thanks – looking forward to a successful year!
