A Note from the Principal
Dear families,
I have GREAT, surprising news for this Friday. After just 10 days of March, our students have read over 16,000 pages. WOW! I am certainly sleeping in a tent on Thursday, March 23. Congratulations, students!
To ramp up the challenge, I'm wondering if we can read far more than we originally thought. Could we read... 100,000 pages?! If, as a whole school, we can get to 100,000 pages, the camping will take place on the roof of the school. Our students are EXCITED!
Families can also enter pages read at home at tinyurl.com/SBReadingMonth23. You've entered nearly 4000 pages from home already, so keep up the great work!
We also saw so many families for Family Conferences this week, and it was wonderful! The Suttons Bay Elementary community is one of my favorite parts of being your principal. ❤️ Thank you for all you do to make our school so amazing.
As usual, if you need anything at all, please feel free to call, text, or email: (231) 534-4439 or fehrenbachs@suttonsbayschools.com.
-Shelagh Fehrenbach, principal

Congratulations to our Robotics Team!
This past weekend, Norsemen Robotics competed at their first District Competition of the season, held at Calvin University. Joined by 39 other teams from across the state, the team and robot performed well throughout their 12 qualification matches, and were seeded in 17th place going into the playoffs. During alliance selection, in which the top eight teams select two other teams to compete with in the playoffs, the Norsemen were the first pick of the 4th-seeded team, the Cyber Coyotes from Reed City. The Raptors from Traverse City Central were selected as the third alliance member. After the playoffs, the Norsemen finished 8th out of 40 teams. Additionally, they were awarded the Team Sustainability Award, which recognizes a robotics program which has “developed a sustainable program in order to define, manage, and achieve the team’s ongoing objectives”.
The Norsemen will compete at their second District Competition of the season March 17th and 18th at Traverse City Central High School. The public is welcome to attend.
Norsemen Robotics was founded in 2011 and includes students from Suttons Bay High School, Northport High School, and Lake Leelanau St. Mary High School.

Community Connections
North American Indigenous Games Fundraiser
On March 18th, four students from Suttons Bay High School will reunite for a fun local event to continue their ongoing fundraising. These young men, along with 12 additional Native American students in Michigan will travel this summer to Canada to participate in the North American Indigenous Games that are held every 4 years.
The NAIG Team Michigan is an inter-tribal roster consisting of players from five tribes throughout Michigan. GTB has four players rostered that attend Suttons Bay (Darius Lopez, Mjiikwis Sanchez, Zachariah Raphael, and Urijah TwoCrow). Our SBHS, GTB students hold the most from one tribe on Team Michigan, including two freshmen that will be the youngest to EVER attend the NAIG!
Please join us in this fun community fundraiser held at the Strongheart Center in Peshawbestown.
